HDC- Half Double Crochet
DC- Double Crochet
CH- Chain
INC- Increase (Put two stitches in the same space. In this case it will be two SC stitches.)
SL ST- Slip Stitch
*- To Be Repeated

Special Stitches

Back Bump: This is where you flip your starting chain over and insert your hook into the “back bump” of the chain and place your stitch there. If you are unfamiliar with this technique I would suggest watching the video that goes with this pattern.

Bobble stitch: *yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook* Repeat 3 more times. Now you should have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on your hook. (Do not chain after this, just go straight into your next stitch)

Magic Circle: If you want to see the magic circle in action be sure to watch the video that goes with this pattern. If you don’t like the magic circle method you can use the CH 2 method instead.

Foundation Single Crochet (FSC): Insert your hook into the side of your last SC. Grab yarn and pull up a loop. YO, pull through one. YO, pull through two. That is your first FSC stitch. Your second stitch will go in the space you made when you pulled through 1.

Finished Dimensions: 18 inches tall.

Crochet Pumpkin Purse Assembly

Now that you have all the pieces made for your crochet pumpkin purse, it’s time to assemble them together! This is also when we will create the strap.

Lay your top piece on your bottom piece, right sides facing out.

SC 24 up the right side of your crochet pumpkin purse. Make sure you go through both the front and back pieces at the same time.

Now we’re going to make our strap.

If you need to see this in action be sure to check out the video for the cactus version of this pattern.

FSC 100.

If you need help with the FSC check out the special stitches above or the cactus bag video around the 49:00 mark.

Once you finish your strap, it’s time to attach it to the left side.

Skip 20 stitches and attach your strap into the left side of the bag, in the 21st stitch from the right side of your strap.

To attach your strap, insert your hook into the side of your last FSC stitch (like you’re going to make another FSC stitch), insert into the 21st stitch on the front piece, and insert into the 21st stitch on the back piece. YO, pull through all the stitches. You now have 2 loops on your hook. YO, pull through both loops.

SC 23 back down the left-hand side.

Place 2 SC in the bottom left corner of your bag and SC across the bottom and end by placing another SC in the same stitch where you started. Tie off and sew in your tails.

Crochet Pumpkin Purse Stem and Vine

You’re almost finished!

Join your brown yarn into the 8th open stitch from the right side of your strap.

Rows 1-3: SC 6, CH 1, turn.

Tie off and sew in your tails.

To make the vine, CH 12.

Skip the CH closes to your hook, place 3 HDC in each stitch all the way down. Tie off leaving a long tail for attaching your vine to your pumpkin.

Using a tapestry needle. Sew your vine on the bottom-right side of your stem where the brown meets the orange.

There you have it! A super cute crochet pumpkin purse just in time for PSL season!
