Halloween Crochet Pattern: Skeleton & Candy Corn Fidget Fish

My original Fidget Fish got a spooky little makeover and became the cutest little Halloween crochet pattern!
In this post, I’ll show you how to turn the original Fidget Fish into a Halloween crochet pattern with two fun variations: a striped candy corn fish and a skeleton fish with puff paint bones. Both versions use the exact same crochet pattern as the original Fidget Fish, so if you’ve already made one, these will be super easy to recreate.
The candy corn version only requires a few simple color changes, and the skeleton version starts with a solid-color fish and gets its spooky details from puff paint. I’ll walk you through exactly what I used and what to change for each one below.

Crochet Skeleton Fidget Fish
Let’s start with the crochet skeleton fidget fish.
This one is the easiest modification because you don’t have to change anything about the original crochet pattern! Follow the Fidget Fish crochet pattern exactly as written, using one solid color for your fish.
It’s fun to get creative with the color combinations here! I made one using black yarn with white puff paint bones, another with white yarn and black puff paint bones, and then got a little funky and made a pink one with white puff paint bones.
I used Tulip Puff Paint for mine. I’ve tried both the Matte and Slick versions, and both worked great. Tulip also makes glow-in-the-dark puff paint, which would be SO fun for these little crochet Halloween Fidget Fish!
The skeleton design is super simple to create! I started by painting the head and a little triangle for the tail. Then I painted a line down the center of the fish for the spine and added a few short lines across it. Don’t worry about making the bones perfect. I think they’re even cuter when they’re a little wonky and each fish looks slightly different.
Candy Corn Fidget Fish
Next up is the Candy Corn Fidget Fish!
Just like the skeleton version, you’ll follow the original Fidget Fish crochet pattern exactly as written. The only thing we’re changing this time is the yarn colors.
You can make your candy corn fish with a yellow face and a white fin, or a white face and a yellow fin. Both are super cute, but I like the yellow face version better.
Here are the instructions for the color changes.
Rows 1-4: Yellow yarn Rows 5-9: Orange yarn Rows 10-12 and fin: White yarn
