Hello and welcome to A Crafty Concept! My name is Ashley and I am the lady behind the hook!!
I grew up going to craft fairs my whole life. My Mamaw sold her paintings and my mom sold a lot of different crafty items over the years. I remember one craft fair when I was about 8 or 9 I decided to sell some friendship bracelets I had made for $1 each. I made $75! For an 8-year-old, that’s pretty exciting! I guess that’s when I caught the entrepreneur bug.
Learning to crochet
I first learned to crochet when I was about 10 years old, my Mamaw taught me. I picked up my hook again when I was 16 after being in a car accident that left me practically on bed rest for a few months (broke an ankle on one side and 3 toes on the other). Then after I graduated high school, college, and got married I started crocheting for profit! I mostly made a bunch of random stuff and sold them to my friends and family. My little crochet business started to grow and after a few years of debating with myself (and lots of research), I finally opened an Etsy shop. This was a huge turning point for my business. I am so happy I went with Etsy versus trying to open my own online shop independently. ( I did try that few years before I opened the Etsy shop and it was a mess… horrible decision and a big waste of money but we won’t get into that embarrassing story )
That leads me into where I am today!! Starting a blog!! I am so unbelievably excited to share my crochet journey with you guys. Recently I have started selling crochet patterns to my designs and it has been so rewarding. The maker community is an amazing community to be apart of. Everyone is so kind, encouraging and inspirational. I love designing new things and sharing them with you guys. It’s like a dream come true for me to be starting this blog and growing my business a little bit at a time. My long-term goal is to get a YouTube channel up and running so keep an eye out for that 😉
