When the Nugget company reached out to me about joining in on their April fools joke by creating a crocheted cover for their Nugget couch and Chunk ottoman, I almost turned it down. I didn’t know if I would be able to pull it off in time and I didn’t want to disappoint them.

Not to mention, I had never done a project like this before!

I was familiar with the brand but I never owned any of their products. When it comes to working with brands, I don’t just jump in for the sake of a collaboration. I’m intentional about who I partner with, making sure our values align. Ethics, integrity, and family-friendly content are non-negotiables for me. I want my work to be a place where creativity thrives, where families feel welcome, and where the brands I collaborate with reflect that same care and respect.

I started looking more closely into the Nugget brand and I was very pleased with what I found! This company is fantastic. They serve their ideal customer well with quality content and it’s obvious the employees love where they work.

After doing a little research into the company and talking it over with my husband, Gabe, I decided to go for it and I’m so glad I did!

They sent me a Nugget couch in the color Blossom and a Chunk ottoman in the color Willow, Ava was very excited to get these in the mail!

Now came the real test: how to crochet 2 different covers that actually fit, look good, and hypothetically hold up to everyday use?

The first decision I made was to use blanket yarn. I needed something thick and squishy and that checked both boxes! If I tried to crochet these covers with worsted weight yarn it’d be 2028 before it was finished.

I sent the Nugget design team photos of different rooms in my house so they could help me choose the right colors for the covers. We went with Bernat Blanket Yarn in Pale Gray for the crochet Nugget Cover and Bernat Blanket Yarn in Almond for the Chunk cover.

I am obsessed with the Almond color, it’s so classy and clean looking.

I started with the Chunk cover since it was the easiest. I knew right away I wanted it to be in the same style as my other circle patterns like the Crafty Boho Wall Hanger, Crafty Boho Pillow and Crafty Boho Rug.

I crocheted the top until it fit over the top of the chunk then I crocheted down to make the sides.

I ran into an issue once I got to the bottom because I knew it needed to fit tightly or it would look frumpy. I ended up closing in the circle a bit with a few decrease rows then using a drawstring to secure the cover onto the chunk.

This way it can be opened enough to take on and off but secured enough when in use to not look wrinkly and frumpy.

The Chunk only took me about 2 days. Easy peasy.

Next came the Nugget.

I went with giant granny squares for the top and bottom and crocheted around the granny squares to create the “walls”. Designing the cover so the Nugget could still move around in all the different ways was a little tricky.

I tried multiple closure techniques then landed on little ties. That way you can still move the couch in the different positions but the cover will stay secure.

I had to restart the crochet Nugget cover a couple of times. I am a trial and error designer, so not the most efficient but it gets the job done lol

For the Nugget pillows I made 2 triangle granny squares, attached with the “walls” of the pillow and secured again with ties.

In the end I was super happy with the way it turned out. The ties added some fun unexpected personality and the fact that the Nugget was still fully functional was a huge win!

I’m not exactly sure how many skeins of yarn we ended up using. I think the Chunk took about 6. For the Nugget we had to keep getting more yarn from different places because no one had Pale Gray in stock. I know it’s a huge range but I would say between 10-15 skeins for the crochet Nugget cover. It was VERY heavy, like a weighted blanket.

I mostly used my Clover L 8.0mm crochet hook but I used the Clover 9.0mm for the Nugget pillows.

Another part of the collab was they wanted me to take some high-quality photos of the two pieces in my home. Some with Ava and some without. They only wanted 10 but I sent them 25 lol.

Ava loved stepping into the spotlight as a model—don’t worry, she was well-compensated for her time.

We bought her a new outfit that matched the vibe we were going for and took about 800 photos with my Canon EOS M50. I’m normally an iPhone gal when it comes to snapping photos, learning how to use my Canon was a nice challenge.

Not gonna lie, taking the photos was a little stressful. I am not a photographer, so I was already stepping out of my comfort zone. Plus trying to work with natural sunlight and a 9 year old girl isn’t a walk in the park. But we did it! And the pictures are PRECIOUS! I plan on printing a couple of her and the Nugget to use as decor in her playroom.

Working with this company was truly a dream. From start to finish, communication was effortless, and they showed incredible patience with all my second-guessing. They even helped stage our living room and pick out Ava’s outfit! But what stood out the most was the enthusiasm of the two ladies I worked with. It was clear they genuinely love their jobs, which speaks volumes about the leadership behind the scenes. When a team thrives, you know their leaders are doing something right.

As a leader of a small team myself, it’s very encouraging to see how strong leadership can create a wonderful work environment with passionate employees that love their job.
