This spring I have discovered outdoor adventuring to be a great way to get my body moving and to boost my mood through nature and sunshine. Consequently, I also found the BUGS!

I don’t know about you but I don’t love when bugs are on me or buzzing around my face. So, in true Ashley fashion, I decided to make myself a solution and in came the Crochet Loop Earrings.

Because of the nature of the natural fibers at the bottom of the loop earrings I figured they’d make great essential oil diffuser jewelry! And I was right. Anytime I step outside I make sure and have these earrings on with my favorite bug repelling essential oil on.

One of my favorite essential oils to diffuse for bug-repellent is Citronella essential oil. I also love Lavender essential oil, Lemongrass essential oil and Peppermint essential oil. Here is a great article by Aromatics International about which oils are best to use for bug repellent and how to use them safely.

If you don’t have essential oils but you’d like to try using them I’d suggest checking out DoTerra or YoungLiving. These are reputable essential oil distributers. It’s important to buy good quality essential oils so that they are both effective and safe to use.

If you prefer not to shop through a MLM, I also like the company Plant Therapy for my essential oils.

My favorite part about these essential oil diffusing earrings is the fact that they’re so quick to work up and they require such little materials.

This crochet essential oil diffuser earrings are great while you are:

  • At an outdoor sports event
  • Celebrating 4th of July
  • Hiking
  • Fishing
  • Camping
  • Outside chasing kids

I could go on forever.

Easy Crochet Bug Repellent Earrings Pattern

Step 1: Cut two pieces of cotton cord about 7 inches long.

Step 2: Using your size C crochet hook and fingering weight yarn, SC 25 stitches around the cotton cord. Tie off leaving a tail about 12 inches long.

Step 3: Squish your SC stitches where they are lined up near the center of your cotton cord and create a cluster about 2 inches wide.

Step 4: Fold your cotton cord in half and knot your two yarn tails together on the back of the loop you created when folding your cord in half.

Step 5: Wrap your long tail around where the cotton cord is coming out from the bottom of your stitches down about 7 times and back up for a total of 12 times.

Pro Tip: You want to get as close to your first and last SC stitches as possible, maybe even cover them once or twice while wrapping your yarn.

Step 6: Knot your two tails together on the back of your loop again.

Step 7: Adjust your loop by holding the two cord tails in one hand and GENTLY pushing up on the wrap-around section with the other hand.

This will squish all your stitches together and give the earring a more finished look.

Pro Tip: if you can see the cord sticking out above the wrap-around section, pull on that side of the cord only while pushing the stitches together and that should disappear.
