Before You Start
This pattern includes two sizes of “dirt” so you can create the perfect plant for your space. The written instructions are for a small String of Pearls plant, but you can easily make a larger version by increasing the number of strings and working longer strands for a fuller, more trailing look.

Crochet String of Pearls- Small Dirt

Both dirt sizes are created in the round. You may need a stitch marker to help keep track of where you are at.

Using your H hook
Round 1: SC 8 into a Magic Circle. (8)
Round 2: INC in each stitch around. (16)
Round 3: INC, SC around. (24)
Round 4: INC, SC 2 around. (32)

Your circle should be about 2.25″ in diameter.

Rounds 5-9: SC in each stitch around. (32)
Round 10: DEC, SC 2 around. (24)
Round 11: DEC, SC around. (16)

Lightly stuff with polyfill.

Round 12: DEC around. (8)

Tie off leaving a long tail, sew the hole closed, then sew in your tail.

Crochet String of Pearls Pattern

Using your G hook
Leave a long tail and chain 7. Do not sew this tail in, we’ll use it during assembly.

* Skip 2 CH, YO, insert hook in back bump of third chain from hook.

DC 5 in that spot.

Pull up a loop and remove your hook. Insert your hook into the top of the first DC (going from the back to the front)

Grab your loop and pull through.

Chain 6 and repeat from * until you have as many pearls as you like. After your last pearl, tie off and sew in your tail.

Make multiple strings of pearls in varying lengths. For my small String of Pearls plant, I made 5 strings with 6 pearls, 5 strings with 7 pearls, and 5 strings with 9 pearls.

Assembly

Assembly is pretty simple. Using a tapestry needle, attach each string of pearls through the top of the dirt and knot it at the bottom. You can knot them individually or wait till they’re all attached and make one big knot.

You can get creative with placement but I’ve found I like to start with the smaller strings in the center and work my way down to the longer strings.

Once you’ve attached all your strings your String of Pearls plant is complete!

I hope you loved making your own crochet String of Pearls! Now you have a super cute plant that never needs water and looks great in any space!

You could have a little fun with this pattern and use chunky yarn instead of worsted weight for a big squishy crochet String of Pearls. Or fingering weight yarn for a tiny baby one! I love how simply changing the yarn can make a totally new crochet masterpiece!
