Crochet Hot Cocoa Mug

Row 1: SC 8 into a magic circle. Join into the top of the first SC, CH 1. (8)

Row 2: INC in each stitch around. Join into the top of the first SC, CH 1. (16)

Row 3: SC around in the BLO. Join into the top of the first SC, CH 1. (16)

Row 4: SC 7, INC, SC 7, INC. Join into the top of the first SC, CH 1. (18)

Row 5: SC around. Join into the top of the first SC, CH 1. (18)

Row 6: SC 4, INC, SC 13. Join into the top of the first SC, CH 1. (19)

Row 7: SC 19. Join into the top of the first SC, CH 1. (19)

Starting in the stitch where you just joined, FSC 7.  Leave a long tail for attaching. This will create the handle portion for your hot cocoa mug.

Using a tapestry needle, sew the end of your handle to the bottom of the cup.

Pro Tip: If you want to save time, hot glue your handle to your mug instead of sewing.

Sew in your first tail then lightly stuff with polyfil.

Whipped Cream

Chain 17.

Skip the chain closes to your hook and place 3 HDC stitches in each space down the chain. Leave a long tail for assembly.

Assembling the whipped cream is the most tedious part of this entire pattern. The more you do it the easier it will get.

Method 1: I recommend sewing in your tails then carefully hot glueing your whip cream into your desired shape. The main thing is the base should be big enough to cover the top of your mug.

Once you’ve shaped your whipped cream, carefully hot glue it to the top of your mug. You may need to add more polyfill once you start glueing on your cream.

Method 2: Use your tails to sew closed and shape your whipped cream and attach to the mug.

Method 3: I’ve found this method helpful. Using a skewer (or something similar) Glue your whipped cream around in a spiral starting at the center and making your way to the outer layer.

Again, you want to make sure the base of your whipped cream is the correct size for covering the top of your mug.

Snip off the part of the skewer you don’t need and carefully secure to the cup with hot glue.

Embellishments

The sky’s the limit when it comes to decorating your little hot cocoa mugs! You can use beads, charms, trinkets, puff paint, etc. to make it your own.

I like to use a toothpick and striped washi tape to create a little peppermint straw. My favorite thing to add is faux chocolate drizzle made with brown puff paint.

Note: This does take a few hours to dry so give yourself plenty of drying time when creating your mini hot cooca mugs.

I hope you enjoyed this toasty crochet hot cocoa mug as much as I enjoyed creating it! I love how cute and little they are and the puff paint chocolate drizzle is *chef’s kiss*.

Changing up the yarn could also be fun! Use Bernat Blanket yarn for a chunky cocoa mug or go smaller with fingering weight yarn and make little crochet cocoa mug earrings, the perfect accessory for all your holiday parties.
