The first thing that comes to my mind when the weather starts to get warmer is fresh squeezed lemonade! Anytime I am at an event, if there’s fresh squeezed lemonade, I buy it! It’s my favorite summertime treat!

I mixed my love for lemonade and my love for crochet and created the Crafty Lemon Pillow!

I love how just simply changing yarn colors can make this lemon pillow a lime pillow or even a grapefruit pillow! So many options!!

The idea behind the greeting card was to provide you guys with a matching, blank-inside, card you can use when selling or gifting your finished Crafty Lemon Pillow!

You could even include a blank, printed card, with your finished pillow for your customers to fill-out and gift if they are purchasing the pillow for a loved one.

Here is what you will need to make a Crafty Lemon Pillow

Crafty Lemon Pillow ????

Finished dimensions:  11” in diameter and 3” tall

Materials:

Size G (4mm) crochet hook (Lemon Hook by Chloe Rebecca Boutique). 
4-5oz of Yellow worsted weight yarn (I Love This Yarn in the color Yellow).
3-4oz of White worsted weight yarn (I Love This Yarn in the color White).
Tapestry needle and a handful of pins. 
Polyfill

Stitch Key (US Terms) 

CH = Chain
YO= Yarn Over
SC = Single Crochet
INC= Increase- Put two stitches in the same space. (In this case, it will be two SC stitches.)
DEC= Decrease – Decreasing 2 stitches into 1. Explained under Special Stitches. (In this case, it will be two SC stitches.)
SL ST= Slip Stitch
*= To Be Repeated 

Special Stitches

Back Bump: This is where you flip your starting chain over and insert your hook into the “back bump” of the chain and place your stitch there. If you are unfamiliar with this technique I would suggest watching this tutorial below by Fiber Flux on YouTube. You do not have to use this technique, you can just single crochet as you normally would, but I feel like the back bump technique is cleaner. 

Magic Circle: If you are unfamiliar with the Magic Circle/Ring method you are welcome to chain 3, join, and crochet in the circle you created. If you would like to learn how to crochet the Magic Circle here is an awesome video tutorial. 

Decrease: Insert hook into first stitch,  and pull up a loop, insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop, YO and pull through all 3 loops on your hook.  

????Before you start????

This pillow is made with a fruity front and a solid color back. This is just much faster than making both the front and back look like a fruit slice. You are welcome to make the front and back exactly the same if you would like for it to look like sliced citrus on both sides.

Body

Starting with white yarn

Round 1: SC 10 into a Magic Circle. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (10)  

Round 2: INC in each stitch around. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (20) 

Round 3: *INC, SC* around for a total of 10 times. Join back into the first SC, CH 1(30) 

Round 4: SC 30 around. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (30) 

Round 5: *INC, SC 2* around for a total of 10 times. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (40) 

Round 6: *INC, SC 3* around for a total of 10 times. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (50) 

Round 7: SC 50 around. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (50) 

Round 8: *INC, SC 4* around for a total of 10 times. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (60) 

Round 9: *INC, SC 5* around for a total of 10 times. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (70) 

Round 10: SC 70 around. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (70) 

Round 11: *INC, SC 6* around for a total of 10 times. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (80) 

Round 12: *INC, SC 7* around for a total of 10 times. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (90) 

Round 13: SC 90 around. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (90) 

Round 14: *INC, SC 8* around for a total of 10 times. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (100)

Now cut your white yarn (leaving a tail for sewing in) and join your yellow yarn  

Round 17: *INC, SC 10* around for a total of 10 times. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (120) 

Round 18: *INC, SC 11* around for a total of 10 times. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (130) 

Round 19: SC 130 around. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (130). Leave a long tail (see pro tip below for length of tail) for sewing pieces together and cut yarn.

Pro Tip: Estimate how much yarn you would need to complete one more row of 130 SC and pull it from the skein. Ball it and set aside (still attached) until you are ready to assemble the pillow. This will just give you one less tail to sew in.   

Repete all the steps for your back piece, only using your solid fruit color.

Peel

Using yellow yarn

Ch 130. Join back into the first CH (DO NOT let chain twist) CH 1. 

Round 1: Starting in the same space as the CH 1, SC 130 around in the Back Bump. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (130)

Rounds 2-6: SC 130 around. Join back into the first SC, CH 1. (130). Leave a long tail (see pro tip below for length of tail) for sewing pieces together and cut yarn. 

Pro Tip: Estimate how much yarn you would need to complete one more row of 130 SC and pull it from the skein. Ball it and set aside (still attached) until you are ready to assemble the pillow. This will just give you one less tail to sew in.   

Triangles

Make 6 (or see ‘before you start’ note above for simpler version).

Using yellow yarn

CH 9 

Row 1: Starting in the second chain from your hook, SC 8 in the back bump. CH 1, turn. (8)   

Row 2: SC in the next 3 stitches, DEC, SC in the last 3 stitches. CH 1, turn. (7)  

Row 3:  SC in the next 2 stitches, DEC, SC in the last 3 stitches CH 1, turn. (6) 

Row 4: SC 6. CH 1, turn. (6) 

Row 5: SC in the next 2 stitches, DEC, SC in the last 2 stitches. CH 1, turn. (5) 

Row 6: SC in the next 2 stitches, DEC, SC in the last stitch. CH 1, turn. (4) 

Row 7: SC in the next stitch, DEC, SC in the last stitch. CH 1, turn. (3) 

Row 8: SC 3, CH 1, turn. (3) 

Row 9: DEC, SC. CH 1, turn. (2) 

Row 10: DEC, CH 1, turn. (1) 

Crochet around the triangle to create a nice clean boarder to make assembly easier. 

Put two SC in the top tip of the triangle. 

SC 9 down the left side of the triangle (this side is the SC stitches from rows 1-10 so you will have to make your own spots to put the 9 SC’s.)  

SC 3 in the bottom left corner of the triangle.  

SC 6 across the bottom of the triangle. 

SC 3 in the bottom right corner of the triangle. 

SC 9 up the right side of the triangle. 

SC 1 in the tip (where you put the first two SC’s for the border row).

Join into the top of the first SC.

Tie off leaving a very long tail for attaching the triangle onto the lemon pillow. (2ft will be more than enough per triangle for attaching). 

Sew in the little tails. 

Assembly

Before assembling the pieces, make sure all the tails are sewn in. (but don’t cut off any of the long working yarn you left for attaching the pieces together).

Line one of the body pieces on top of the peel piece.

The peel has 130 stitches and the last row on the lemon body has 130 stitches. *You are going to SC all the way around, lining the stitches of the peel and the stitches of the body together for a total of 130 SC around.

Insert your hook into a stitch on the body piece, grab the working yarn you left attached to the peel, and pull through the body stitch. CH 1. 

If you did not leave a ball of working yarn for assembly just work from your main skein to attach the pieces.   

SC into the same space as the ch 1 (make sure to insert the hook into both the body and the peel stitches) and SC 129 around making sure the peel stitches line up with the body stitches.

Join back into your first SC and tie off. (130)   

Now attach the second body piece, stuffing with Polyfill as you go.

This time your working yarn will be attached to the body piece instead of the peel piece. Again, if you did not leave working yarn for assembly, just work from the main skein. 

Insert your hook into a stitch on the second body piece of the pillow and the peel. Pull up a loop and CH 1. 

SC into the same space as the ch 1 (make sure to insert your hook into both the body and the peel stitches) and SC around until you get about 100 SC. Once you reach 100 SC, start stuffing the pillow.   

Continue SC the pieces together (adding stuffing as needed) until your entire pillow is stuffed and attached. Join back into you first SC and tie off. You may need to shape your pillow into a circle a little bit after stuffing. 

Sew in any loose ends.

Now it’s time to attach the triangles! 

Using pins, pin down 6 triangles to the front side of your lemon pillow.  

Using pushpins, pin down 6 triangles (spaced evenly) to one side of your lemon pillow.

Using the tapestry needle, start sewing on each triangle one at a time with a whip stitch.

-insert the tapestry needle into the pillow body close to the triangle, pop your needle back up through one of the stitches in your triangle and pull taught). Be careful not to pull through too fast because the yarn may hook around one of the pushpins and pull them out.  

Continue going around until you have sewn down each stitch of the triangle border. Tie off and sew in the tail.
