Each pocket is made in 5 pieces. A front piece, two back pieces, and 2 ears. The back pieces will be referred to as “top-back piece” and “bottom-back piece.” This no-sew pocket is created inside out. We will flip it right side out after completing the assembly.

Assembly

If you need help refer to the video that goes with this pattern.

Set your front piece and bottom-top piece up so that the right sides are touching and your front piece is on top.

Lining up your top four stitches of each piece.

Using the yarn still attached to your top back piece, insert your hook through the 1st single crochet st of the front piece, going through the same stitch on the top back piece. Create a Chain 1 to attach the pieces together.

SC 2 stitches together in the first SC space where you just joined.

SC in the next 2 spaces.

SC two stitches together in the 4th stitch on the top of your work.

Now we will be working downward along the left-hand side of our cow. SC 2 stitches, being sure to go through the front piece and the top-back piece at the same time.

Since we are working on the raw side of our work, you’ll have to make your own spots for your hook to go.

Now we are going to attach the first ear. The bottom row of your ear has 8 stitches. Fold the right 4 stitches on top of each other and the left 4 stitches on top of each other.

Insert your first ear so that it’s sandwiched between he front and back pieces and the right side is touching the front piece of your work.

SC 4, this time going through the front piece, two stitches of the ear, and the back-top piece.

SC the next 4 stitches going through all 3 pieces of your Crafty Pencil Pocket.

SC 3 more stitches going through the front and the top-back piece only. Grab your bottom-back piece.

The next 4 stitches will go through your front, back-top, and back-bottom pieces.

Line your 3 pieces together so the back-top piece is sandwiched between your other two pieces.

SC 3 stitches.

SC 4 sts, going through all 3 pieces.

SC 1 going through the front piece and the bottom-back piece only. Switch to your pink yarn.

Still going through the front and bottom-back pieces only,

SC 6 with your pink yarn. Now you are at the bottom of your cow pocket. SC INC into the first stitch (on the corner), SC across 8 sts. SC INC in the last stitch.

Now we are going to go back up the other side. This is just like the first side but in the reverse order.

SC 6 stitches with the Pink.

SC 1 stitches with the Linen.

Going through all 3 pieces of your cow, SC 4 stitches with Linen.

Going through just the front piece and the top-back piece, SC 3 stitches with Linen.

Now insert your second ear. SC 4, this time going through the front piece, two stitches of the ear, and the back-top piece.

SC last 2 stitches with Linen. Join into the top of the first SC. Tie off. Sew in all your tails.

Flip your crochet cow gift pocket right side out.

  1. Wendy says:

Now many stitches in your bobble stitch. I can’t find it defined. Different designers seem to use a different amount of dc’s in their bobbles.

    • Wendy says:

Thanks for your email stating it is 4. I know you said it is in the special stitches above but I don’t see the definition just that there are bobbles in the pattern.

  2. Wendy says:

Sorry. Me again. Row 12 on face comes to 13 sts as written, should there be a linen sc after the linen Dec or should there be 6 linen after the brown?

    • Wendy says:

I figured out by looking at your graph. Below are the adjustments on the Front Piece.
Row 12 needs to end the row with sc6 Linen, Dec.
ROw 14 needs to end the row with sc4 Linen, Dec.
Row 16 needs to end the row with sc 5 Linen, Dec
Row 18: the middle sc should be sc 6
Row 19: the middle sc should be sc 4
Row 20: there needs to be a middle sc 2
