How to make easy yarn pom poms

Using the teal, 65mm clover pom pom maker, make 3 poms with your red yarn and 2 poms with white yarn.

Step 1: Open one arm of the pom pom maker.

Step 2: Wrap your yarn around the arm to the desired thickness.

Step 3: Close that arm of the pom pom maker, and open the second arm of the pom pom maker.

Step 4: Continue wrapping your yarn around the second arm of the pom pom maker, until the thickness is about the same as the first arm yarn thickness.

Step 5: Cut your yarn.

Step 6: Keeping it closed, run your scissors under the loops created when wrapping the yarn around each leg of the pom pom maker, and cut apart the loops.

Do this for both legs.

Step 7: Cut a long piece of yarn (about 18-24 inches) in the same color, tie around the center of the pom pom maker, squishing all the yarn together and knotting it tightly closed.

Step 8: Open the legs of the pom pom maker and pull the two pieces apart, releasing the pom.

Step 9: Trim your pom to desired shape.

Crochet USA wall hanger- Pom Poms

Attaching yarn poms to the crochet wall hanger decor

Line your poms across the bottom of your wall hanger and tie each one on, using the tails left when closing the poms.

I like to tie each pom around two SC stitches in row 17, then skip 5 stitches and attach my next pom around the next two SC stitches.

Tip: It works best to start in the middle and work your way out.

How to make easy yarn fringe

I have found that it’s easier for me to attach the fringe after I attach the pom poms.

First, decide how long you want your fringe to hang down from the bottom of your crochet tapestry, and double it.

My fringe hangs down about 11.5 inches. So each piece of yarn is about 23″ long.

Pro Tip: Cutting fringe is easier if you use a template, wrap your yarn around and around your template, then cut all the fringe at once. I used a planner for my fringe.

Attach fringe pieces in each stitch across the bottom of your wall hanging.

For a fuller look, I attached one fringe piece in the first stitch, then two fringe pieces in the second stitch, and repeated that across the bottom.

To attach fringe, fold your fringe yarn in half, insert your hook into the stitch from the back of your wall hanging, grab the center of the fringe yarn (where it’s folded), and pull it through the stitch (this creates a loop on your hook).

Grab the fringe yarn with your hook and pull it through the loop. Repeat as desired.

Sew in any ends you may have neglected, trim your fringe if desired, and TADA!!! You just made a super cute crochet USA wall hanger with just yarn, a metal loop, and a crochet hook! You’re a crochet ninja!
