Looking for a way to step up your packaging game? I created some crochet rainbow pillow product tags as a freebie just for you. Sign up here and they will be sent directly to your inbox.

Finished pillow dimensions: Approximately 12 inches tall and 14 inches at the widest part.

These are the dimentions I got when I used the hook in the pictures which was a Susan Bates G. When I used my Clover Amour G (the hook I used in the video) it was a little smaller.

Here’s what you will need to make your own Crochet Rainbow Pillow!

Materials
G(4mm) size crochet hook
Less than 1oz (mine was 8g) Red Yarn
Less than 1oz (mine was15g) Orange Yarn
Less than 1oz (mine was19g) Yellow Yarn
Less than 1oz (mine was23g) Limelight Yarn
Less than 1oz (mine was 27g) Royal Yarn
1-2 oz (Mine was 34g) Purple Yarn
2-3oz White Yarn
Polyfill
Tapestry needle

Stitch Key (US Terms)
SC = Single Crochet
CH = Chain
INC= Increase (Put two stitches in the same space. In this case, it will be two SC stitches.)
SL ST= Slip Stitch
*= To Be Repeated

Special Stitches

Bobble: *YO, Insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops on your hook* Repeat 3 more times. Now you should have 5 loops on your hook. YO and pull through all 5 loops on your hook.

Back Bump: This is where you flip your starting chain over and insert your hook into the “back bump” of the chain and place your stitch there. If you are unfamiliar with this technique I would suggest watching this tutorial below by Fiber Flux on YouTube. You do not have to use this technique, you can just single crochet as you normally would, but I feel like the back bump technique is cleaner.

How to change colors

Work your SC as normal but stop right before finishing the stitch, with 2 loops on your hook. Pick up your next color and Pull it through the 2 loops on your hook, CH 1 and turn. Continue crocheting with your new color.

Here are some fun color suggestions all made with I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby

In the video, I made a pillow using the Tropical colors if you want to check that out!

Crochet Rainbow Pillow Body: Back Piece

The back piece is made exactly like the front piece, except without the bobble stitches. The back piece will most likely be smaller than the front piece since it doesn’t have the bobble stitches, but when you assemble them together it won’t matter.

Since it’s made just like the front piece, I am only going to show a picture after each color. The pdf in my shop has a picture for every step.

Sew in all your tails now. It will be more difficult to do after the front and back pieces are joined.

Join

Now we need to join the front and back pieces. Set the front piece on top of the back (right sides  facing out) and line up the stitches.

Put your hook through the first stitch on the front piece and grab your working yarn from the   back piece.

While going through both the front and back pieces, SC 90 all the way around the pillow, making sure to keep your stitches lined up. On the last SC change yarn to white.

Clouds

Row 1: Evenly SC 92 around the opening of your front and back pieces. Join back to the first SC, CH 1 and turn. (92)

TIP: Each section of color should have 4SC across it until you get to red. Red will have 6 SC across it. When you get back to purple it will have 8SC across it, 4 on the front piece and 4   on the back. There should be no need for any increases.

Row 2: *SC, BOBBLE* around. Join back to the first SC, CH 1 DO NOT TURN (92)

Tip: You may want to use a stitch marker here just to show where row 2 ends, so you   don’t accidentally start crocheting your bobbles in the round.

Row 3: *BOBBLE, SC* around. Join back to the first BOBBLE, CH 1 DO NOT TURN (92)

Tip: Your bobble stitches should go into a SC stitch from the previous row and vise versa

Row 6: SC around, Join back to the first SC, CH 1Don’t tie off (92)

Sew in loose ends now

Stuff your pillow then pinch the cloud opening together so that it closes and SC 46 stitches across (going through the front and back of the pillow at the same time) making sure to line up the front and back pieces of the pillow as you go. You may need to add some more stuffing as   you SC the pillow closed.

Tie off, sew in your last end and you’re all finished!! Congratulations you just made an adorable crochet rainbow pillow. Play around with different color combinations and see how pretty all of the colors look together.
