Stitch Key (US Terms)

Ch: Chain

St: Stitch

Rnd: Round

Rep: Repeat

Sc: Single crochet

Sl st: Slip stitch

Dc: Double crochet

Puff st: *Yarn over and insert hook into stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop; rep from * 3 times, (nine loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all nine loops on hook.

Ch-sp: Chain space

Sk: Skip

Yoslst: Yarn over slip stitch. Yarn over insert hook into stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (three loops on hook). Pull first loop on your hook through the second and third loops on the hook.

Third loop: The third loop is created by the yarn over in your yoslst stitches. You will see the third loop on the side of your stitch sitting underneath the front loop. When you work into the third loop, the front and back loops of the stitch are pushed out so that they are facing up. This creates the pretty braid-like texture of the collar.

Sc 2 tog: Single crochet two together. Insert hook into first stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (two loops on hook). Insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (three loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all loops on your hook.

Gauge

13 rows x 16 stitches = 10 cm x 10 cm

Note: I (Ashley) was able to get the correct gauge with I Love This Yarn and a G hook, but if feel like the drape might be a little stiffer.

Ch 25 with a 5.5 mm hook

Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook. Sc in each ch. (24)

Row 2: Ch 2 (counts a 1 dc), turn. Puff st, ch 1. * Sk 1, puff st, ch 1; rep from * 9 times. Sk 1, dc in last st. (24)

Row 3: Ch 1 turn. Sc 24. (The last sc should be in the top of the ch 2 of the previous row)

Rep row 2 & 3 7 times.

How to Measure your Swatch

Measure the stitches in the centre of your swatch as they will give a more accurate measurement.

When measuring the rows begin measuring from a sc row.

If your swatch measurement is too small size up your hook until you get the correct measurement.

If your swatch is too big size down your hook until you get the correct measurements.

The hook that gives you the correct measurement is what you will need to use so that your crochet dog jumper comes out the right size.

Notes

This pattern is written in US terms.

It is written (XS, S, M, L, XL).

The numbers in brackets at the end of each row/ round is the stitch count for that row/ round for each size.

Ch 1 at the beginning of rounds/ rows does not count as a stitch. Ch 2 at the beginning of rounds only counts as dc when specified. The yellow crochet dog jumper in the photos is a size small.

Construction

This jumper is constructed from the top down. First you make the collar then increase stitches for the chest, add the arm/leg holes and create the body. Then you will crochet in rows to create the tail of the jumper, decreasing your stitch count every second row to create a tapered shape. Finally you will crochet the ribbing on the end of the crochet dog jumper.

Crochet Dog Jumper Pattern

Collar

**Start with 6mm hook**

Leave a long tail for weaving in at the end. Make a slip knot on hook. Ch (10, 12, 14, 16, 18)

Row 1: Yoslst in the back hump of the second ch from hook, yoslst in the back hump of each ch to end of row. (9, 11, 13, 15, 17 st in row)

Row 2: Ch 1 turn, yoslst in the third loop of each st. (9, 11, 13, 15, 17 st in row)

Repeat row 2 (47, 55, 63, 71, 79) times.

You should have (49, 57, 65, 73, 81) rows of yoslst. There should be (24, 28, 32, 36, 40) rows of vs on each side of collar.

The collar should measure (26 cm x 4 cm, 31 cm x 5 cm, 36 cm x 6 cm, 41 cm x 7 cm, 46 cm x 8 cm)

** When measuring the gauge of your collar please ensure you have done at least 15 rows of yoslst before measuring the width of your collar because in the beginning, it will measure larger than the listed measurements for the finished collar.

Joining the collar

**Before joining the collar please check that the tail end + working end of your yarn are on the same side. If they are on opposite sides then you may have done one too many rows or stopped one row short.

At the end of the last row turn your work and fold the collar in half. Insert hook under third loop of the first st then through first ch on the other end of collar. Sl st. Rep for each st. (9, 11, 13, 15, 17 st in row) Flip collar so that the seam of sl st is on the inside.

The right side of the collar should now have (25, 29, 33, 37, 41) rows of vs.

Body

**Switch to 5.5mm hook**

In this section of the pattern we will be increasing every second rnd/sc rnd to create the size of the chest.
