Materials

Size H (5.0mm) Crochet Hook
– 4 medium weight yarn. Brands I like to use are Vanna’s Choice from Lion Brand Yarn, I love Yarn from Hobby Lobby and Lily’s Sugar’n Cream Cotton Yarn
– Colors: Flag- red, white and blue Hotdog- tan, red, gold Hamburger- tan, white, red, green, gold and brown Popsicle- tan, sky blue, white and red Watermelon – red, black, green and white
– A hot glue gun and glue sticks
– Felt for backing
tapestry needle
– Scissors

Crochet Popsicle Applique

Free crochet popsicle applique pattern.

Yarn colors – tan, sky blue, red and white

Stick:

With tan and a 5mm crochet hook, chain 8

Hdc in the third chain from the hook, hdc across. Finish off and weave ends (6hdc)

Popsicle

With blue, chain 8

Row 1: sc in the second chain from the hook, sc across (7 sc)

Row 2-5: sc across (7 sc)

Row 6-10: change to white, sc across (7 sc)

Row 11: change to red, sc across (7 sc)

Row 12: dec, sc in the next four stitches, dec (5 sts)

Row 13: dec, sc in the next two stitches, dec (3 sts)

Row 14-15: sc across (3 sts)

Row 16: sc, hdc, sc. Finish off and weave ends. (3 sts)

Glue the stick to the back and bottom of the popsicle.

Crochet Hotdog Applique

Free crochet hotdog applique pattern.

Yarn color – tan, red and gold

Bun #1

With tan yarn,  chain 13

Round 1: sc in the second chain from the hook, sc in the rest of the chains, sc two more times in the last chain for a total of 3 sc in the last chain, now you will be crocheting on the other side of the chain, sc across, add 2 sc into the first chain for a total of 3 sc in the last chain. [26]

Round 2: 2 sc in the first stitch, sc 10, 2 sc in the next three stitches, sc 10, 2 sc in the next two stitches. [32] Finish off and weave ends.

Bun #2

Repeat only round 1 from bun #1. Finish off and weave ends.

The dog 😉

With red, chain 19

Round 1: hdc in the third chain from the hook, hdc in the rest of the chains, add two more hdc in the last chain, now you will be crocheting on the other side of the chain, hdc in each stitch placing two hdc in the first chain. [38] Finish off and weave ends.

Mustard

Use gold to make a long chain, approximately 40 but could vary based on tension. Use the hot glue to make a squiggly line of mustard.

Glue bun #1 to the front/bottom of the dog and bun #2 to the back/top. 

Crochet Burger Applique

Free crochet hamburger applique pattern.

Up next in the crochet cookout applique set is the crochet hamburger applique.

Yarn colors- tan, white, brown, green, gold, red

Top bun: with tan, chain 13

Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, sc across the rest of the chains (12 sc)

Row 2: sc2tog, 3 hdc, 2 dc, 3hdc, sc2tog. Finish off and weave ends. (10 sts)

With a tapestry needle and white yard, sew in little seeds on the very top of the bun.

Bottom bun

With tan, chain 13

Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, sc across the rest of the chains (12 sc)

Burger patty

With brown, chain 13

Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, sc across the rest of the chains (12 sc)

Row 2: sc evenly across (12 sc)

Finish off and weave ends.

Cheese

With gold, chain 13

Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, sc across the rest of the chains (12 sc) 

Row 2: chain 1 and turn, sc3 tog, chain 1 and turn, sl st the last two stitches together. Finish off and weave ends. 

Attach the gold to row 1 two or three stitches away from the other end with a sl st, sc3tog, chain 1 and turn, sl st the last two stitches together. Finish off and weave ends. 

Lettuce

With green, chain 13

Make 3 sc in the second chain from the hook, sl st in the next stitch, *3 sc in the next stitch, sl st in the next*, repeat from *—* all the way down the chain. Finish off and weave ends.

Tomato

With red, chain 13

Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, sc across the rest of the chains (12 sc)

Assembly

Lay out your piece of felt and glue all the pieces very close to one another on the felt. 

Crochet American Flag

Free crochet USA flag applique pattern.

Yarn colors- red, white and blue

With red, chain 16

Hdc in the third chain from the hook, hdc across (14 hdc) Finish off and weave ends. Repeat this one more time with red and two more times with white. These are the stripes for the bottom of the flag.

With red, chain 9

Hdc in the third chain from the hook, hdc across (7 hdc) Finish off and weave ends. Repeat this one more time with red and one time with white. These are the stripes for the top of the flag.

With blue, chain 8

Row 1: sc in the second chain from the hook, sc across. Chain 1 and turn. (7 sc)

Row 2-6: sc evenly across (7 sc)

Finish off and weave ends.

Stars: with a long piece of white yarn and a tapestry needle make french knots in rows to represent the stars of the flag.

Assembly

You will assemble all the pieces by gluing them closely together on felt.

Crochet Watermelon Applique

Free crochet watermelon applique pattern.

Yarn colors – red, white, green and black

Row 1: With red, 6 sc into  magic ring. Pull closed, chain 1 and turn. You will not be working in rounds, you’ll be working in rows, so always chain 1 and turn at the end of each row.

Row 2: *sc in the first stitch, inc (2 sc in the same stitch) in the next* repeat 1sc, 2 sc across (9 sc)

Row 3: *sc, sc, inc* repeat across (12 sc)

Row 4: *sc, sc, sc, inc* repeat across (15 sc)

Row 5: *sc, sc, sc, sc, inc * repeat across (18 sc)

Row 6: *sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, inc* repeat across (21 sc)

Row 7: change to white, *sc in the first 6 sc, inc* repeat across (24 sc)

Row 8: change to green *sc in the first 7 sc, inc* repeat across (27 sc)

Seeds: with a long piece of black yarn and a tapestry needle, sew in the seeds.

Assembly

Attach all the pieces to felt and cut out. Cut a strip of felt approximately 1 inch x 2 inch and glue to the back as a loop that you can use to string all the pieces up!

    Thank you so much for sharing these cute patterns! I love Colleen’s patterns and can’t wait to make these. In looking at the pattern for the hamburger, the tomato part that uses the red yarn seems to be missing. Are there instructions for that part? Thank you!!

      Hey Carol! I literally just saw that myself. I have messaged Colleen on Instagram to double check but I think its chain 13 SC 12. It might be SLST 12… Ill update the pattern as soon as she gets back to me 🙂
