Crafty Boho Slipper | Mens
7mm Crochet Hook
Bernat Blanket Yarn
Puffy Paint – This is optional if you want to make your Crafty Boho Slippers slip proof.
Stitch Key (US Terms)
CH = Chain
SC = Single Crochet
INC= Increase (Put two stitches in the same space. In this case, it will be two SC stitches.)
Invisible DEC= Explained under Special Stitches.
SL ST= Slip Stitch
*= To Be Repeated
Modified Bobble: *YO, Insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops on your hook* Repeat 2 more times. Now you should have 4 loops on your hook. YO and pull through all 4 loops on your hook.
Back Bump: This is where you flip your starting chain over and insert your hook into the “back bump” of the chain and place your stitch there. If you are unfamiliar with this technique I would suggest watching this tutorial below by Fiber Flux on YouTube.
Invisible Decrease: Insert your hook into the front loop of your first stitch, insert your hook into the front loop of your second stitch, pull up a loop. YO, pull through both loops on your hook.
Before You Start
- This pattern includes 9 sizes. Toddler, Child S-XL, Adult S-L and Mens. View the Quick Reference Chart or the Simple Sizing Chart for size comparisons and dimensions.
- If you need to make half sizes (like bigger than a small but smaller than a medium) just go up to an 8mm hook size.
- If you need to make a “wide” version, just repeat the last row in the sole portion, this will make the sides taller and it will stretch further for wider feet.
- The slippers WILL STRETCH… so if you make it and it’s tight when you first put it on, walk around for about 20 minutes and it will stretch out significantly.
- They are machine washable, but if you put puffy paint on the bottoms to keep them from being slippery, you will need to wash them inside out and lay flat to dry.
- Only the Child size XL will be photographed.
- Other sizes will not be photographed (that would take me literally 100000 years) – Refer to this size’s photos for reference.
Crafty Boho Slippers | Size Mens
Row 1: Make a slip knot and chain 21
Starting in the back bump CLOSEST to your hook, SC 20
SC 6 in the last back bump space
SC 20 back up the opposite side of the starting chain. CH 1, turn your work. (46)
Row 2: SC 20, INC in the next 6 stitches, SC 20. CH 1, turn your work (52)
Row 3: SC 52. CH 1, turn your work (52)
Row 4: SC 20, *INC, SC* 6 times, SC 20. Do not chain 1 after this row (58)
SC 4 across the edge of your sole. Your first SC will go in the same stitch where you just SC your 58th stitch in row 4. For the other three, you will need to create your own spaces since its on the raw edge of your work.
Fold your sole in half (in on its-self), hot dog style. Insert your hook into the last SC you just made and then insert your hook into the raw side of the heel that doesn’t have any SC’s yet. Slip Stitch to join them together..
Slip Stitch in the last three SC stitches on the heel, lining them up and joining them to the exposed raw side of the heel until it’s completely joined. CH 1.
Flip your sole so your SS seem is on the inside. SC 58 around in the back loops only. Join into your first SC. CH 1. Do not turn your work. (58)
SC 58. Join into your first SC. CH 1. (To make a wide version, repeat this row)
Set this aside and grab the other end of your skein to start making the top of your bootie.
Note: I like working from both ends of the skein so I don’t waste any yarn or lose at yarn chicken by underestimating how much yarn I will need.
Make a slip knot and Chain 13.
Row 1: Starting in the back bump CLOSEST to your hook, SC 12.
SC 6 in the last ch space.
SC 12 back up the opposite side of the chain. CH 1, turn your work. (30)
Row 2: SC 12, INC in the next 6 stitches, SC 12. CH 1, turn your work (36)
Row 3: *SC, BOBBLE* around. End with SC SC instead of SC BOBBLE so we don’t end the row on a bobble stitch. CH 1, Turn. (36)
Row 4: SC 12, *INC, SC* in the next 6 stitches, SC 12 (42) Do not chain or turn.
Put TWO SC in the same stitch as your 42nd SC from row 4. SC 5 across the raw edge of your work, you will have to make your own spots again. SC 2 in the last spot. Join to the first SC in row 4 but DO NOT CHAIN. (9)
You will need to center your top piece onto your bottom piece. Your top piece has 42 SC and the Bottom has 58.
Insert your hook into the Back Loop of the first stitch in row 4 of the top piece. (where you just slip stitched without chaining)
Now insert your hook into the Front Loop of the 9th stitch from the end on the right side of the slipper bottom. (So count up 8 from the chain and insert your hook into the 9th stitch) and place a SC.
Tip: If this is confusing please refer to the 27:30 mark in the video tutorial
Continue to SC in the Back Loop of the top piece and the Front Loop of the bottom piece, joining them together. (42)
Slip Stitch in the same stitch as your 42nd SC – this time going under BOTH loops of the top and bottom stitches. Cut your yarn and tie off.
Insert your hook back into the CH 1 we left available on the bottom piece of the slipper.
Round 1: SC 8, SC 1 into the same stitch you just tied off for the top piece, SC 10 across the edge of the top, SC 1 in the stitch where you first started assembling, SC 8. Join into the top of your first SC. CH 1. (28)
Round 2: SC 8, Invisible DEC over the next two stitches, SC 8, Invisible DEC over the next two stitches, SC 8. Join into the top of your first SC. CH 1. (26)
Round 3: SC 7, Invisible DEC over the next two stitches, SC 8, Invisible DEC over the next two stitches, SC 7. Join into the top of your first SC. CH 1. (24)
Tip: If your ankle section is too big for your ankle you can add another row with two more decreases (on top of the previous decreases) for a total of 4 rows, and with the 4th row having 22 stitches.
Flip your slipper inside out to sew in all your tails using a tapestry needle (hiding them on the inside of your slipper). Then flip it right side out again after your tails are sewn in and you’re all finished!!
