The 2020 Crafty Beanie Swap is closed! See you in 2021!!
Watch the video below if you would rather listen to this post instead of reading it.
Has it really been a year since the first-ever Crafty Beanie Swap?! Part of me feels like there’s no way it was a full year ago and another part of me feels like it was 5 years ago haha.
I don’t know how I can be feeling both at the same time but I am.
Anywho, a new year means a NEW CRAFTY BEANIE SWAP!!
What is the Crafty Beanie Swap? This is a fun maker swap I started last year where participants both make and recieve a handmade beanie from another maker in our community.
By participating in the beanie swap you get to meet a new yarn-addicted friend, make a beanie you know is going to someone who appreciates handmade pieces and recieve a beanie you know was handmade, with love, just for you.
Last year’s swap had 200 participants and we donated about $850.00 (US dollars) to my Alabama church’s adoption fund.
That fund helps families who are going through the adoption process, expenses can get pretty high pretty fast.
“I loved doing the Crafty Beanie Swap! As a maker, you never really think of getting another makers beanies because you always think “I can just make my own beanie.” But it was such a nice and heartfelt way to share your passion with someone who shares those same values. And the money goes to a great cause; it’s a win-win!”

This year, for the 2020 Crafty Beanie Swap, I thought it would be appropriate to donate all proceeds to aid the relief efforts for wildlife victims of the 2020 Australia bushfire season
All the proceeds for this swap will be donated to the Animal Rescue Collective where 100% of donations pay for materials to keep animals safe and warm.
Since the proceeds will be donated there will be no refund options available. ALL SALES ARE FINAL
I do not host the Crafty Beanie Swaps to make money. I do it as a fun, friendship-building tool for the community I love with my whole heart.
I have learned though, that charging a fee helps insure everyone both receives and sends a beanie. It’s a nice bonus that the proceeds can go to help other folks in need as well.
If you would like more information about the Australia relief efforts you can read this post by Vincent over at Knot Bad. Also, this Facebook group is for crafters in America who want to make and donate goods. Be sure to check the “files” section for pattern information and shipping instructions.
For the 2020 beanie Swap, I am doing things a little differently. I will be taking entry fees through Paypal instead of Etsy and there won’t be any extra steps like last year. Everything will be done all at once (payment and survey) through the form at the end of this post.
PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST BEFORE PURCHASING THE ENTRY FEE
Here’s how to participate in the Crafty Beanie Swap

I have created a PDF just for beanie swap folks that includes
- A special “Crafty Beanie Swap” wrap label
- An “about me” card you can fill out to tell your Beanie Buddy a little more about you.
- A “thank you” card you can use to write your Beanie Buddy a thank you note.
- Graphics for sharing on social media.
Last year a few folks asked if they could send other yarny goodies to their beanie buddy as a gift. You are more than welcome to do this, but it is absolutely not required (and should not be expected).
I participated in the last beanie swap and loved it. It’s a great feeling to know that the person making your beanie puts just as much talent, heart and soul into their work as you do. It’s an honor to wear the hat they made with pride, tell people about them, and know that becuase makers value community over competition, they’re doing the same with yours.

Also, last year, a few folks asked if they could purchase more than one entry fee. Absolutely. I designed the form below to give the option for 1, 2 or 3 entry fees making the total 5, 10 or 15 US dollars.
If you just want to send one beanie and recieve one beanie just buy one entry fee ($5.00 USD).
Since the proceeds are being donated, there will be no refunds offered. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. So be sure you purchase the correct number of entry fees.
Again, if you just want to send one beanie and recieve one beanie just buy one entry fee ($5.00 USD).
If your beanie buddy does not send you a beanie, an Angel Beanie will be sent to you in its place. Entry fee funds will be used to send Angle Beanies.
“I absolutely loved the beanie swap! It was so fun to connect with another crafter. Everytime I wear the beanie I received I can’t help but smile from ear to ear!”
Jasymen Zippay of Teal Cactus Creations
Please note only I will see the form list in its entirety. The only people who will have access to your form answers will be me and your beanie buddy. If you are not comfortable giving your address, I would suggest using a PO Box instead.
No one, besides Paypal, will have access to your payment information.
If you have any questions please send me an email and I will get back to you within 24 hours. Please keep in mind I am a one-woman show over here and I am expecting the number of participants to be pretty large this year.
Last year I had to cut it off at 200 entries because I was afraid it would get unmanageable. This year I know a little bit more about what im doing and am more confident in the process. So hopefully I will not be closing the swap early this year.
This year’s Crafty Beanie Swap will be open for entries today 1/20/20 through Saturday 1/25/20. After doors close on 1/25/20, I will take all the entries and pair everyone up. This usually takes me a few days. I will get your Beanie Buddy information to you as soon as I can.
I absolutely LOVED participating in last years beanie swap. I don’t have many “yarny” friends so it was nice to be able to connect with and help another maker get the word out about their craft. I love the beanie that I received and wear it all the time.

After you get your Beanie Buddies information, feel free to contact them via email or Instagram, and introduce yourself. All beanies need to be shipped by February 15th at the latest. After you ship your buddy’s beanie be sure to send them the tracking info so they can keep an eye out for the package.
If you would like to know how to ship from home using Paypal check out this post.
I believe that’s all the information you’ll need to participate in the 2020 Crafty Beanie Swap! Thank you for reading the whole post, I really want to make sure everyone has all the information so there is as little confusion as possible.
I am so excited for this year’s swap and can’t wait to start seeing all your beanies on my Instagram feed! If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to me before purchasing since again, all sales are final.
Love you!!!!
I signed up for the Crafty Beanie Swap last year and have talked about it all year round. I got paired with Valerie and it’s been great to get to know her. This was my first experience swapping with other makers and it started such a fun journey! Now I look for all kinds of chances to swap and meet other makers. Ashley did a great job organizing the swap. It was so easy!
