Free Virtual Christmas Party for Crocheters- Crochetmas 2023

Crochetmas 2023- A virtual Christmas party for crocheters where we go live every day for 10 days and crochet together.

Hey friend! I am so happy you’re here. It’s that time of year again and that means our second annual Crochetmas party is about to start!

I will be going live on Youtube every day, for the first 10 days of December, and crocheting one of the free crochet patterns on my blog that would make a great Christmas gift.

Each pattern included was strategically selected because one, it works up quickly and 2, it would make an excellent Christmas gift! My hope is you will be able to market these finished pieces to your audience and make a little extra money this holiday season.

Gotta give you all the best ideas while you’re saving up for Crochet Boss Academy 😉

You can also make these if you are falling behind on your personal gift-making this year. So many people on your list would love these pieces. Of course, I’ll talk about that during each live.

CrochetMAS is absolutely free to join, the only thing you need to do is sign up to CrochetMAS email list below.

After you sign up you will be sent the Welcome Email automatically. That email will have the schedule and a few free reel videos you are welcome to share on social media. Then, each morning of CrochetMAS, I will send an email telling you

  • The pattern were doing that day (and the time of the live)
  • The materials you will need
  • Where you can find the free version and the paid ad-free PDF version
  • Any freebies I’ve created for that pattern
  • Additional info that will vary by pattern

To make things even sweeter, we will be doing GIVEAWAYS during each of our 10 days together. When you show up live you will be given the opportunity to win fun things like

  • Crochet Pattern PDF’s
  • Crafty Stickers
  • Crafty Planners
  • Crafty Notebooks

And anything else that might pop into my mind while I’m chatting with you.

Each of the lives will be saved and available for replays, but only the folks who join live will be able to enter the giveaways.

New to 2023- Some of the patterns we will be making during CrochetMAS are not currently available on my blog or in my shop. They are CrochetMAS exclusives! One day these patterns will be live but for now only the CrochetMAS folks will get to see them.

There wont be blog posts or PDF’s for the CrochetMAS exclusives.

I will be updating this blog post with each of the replays once they become available. Free free to bookmark this post so you can get back to it quickly.

I am so freaking excited about this event! Last year’s CrochetMAS was a blast and this year is going to be such a good time! I hope you will join me.

I have included the schedule below with links to all the free crochet patterns we will be making and placeholders for all the live video replays.

If you’re more of a PDF gal I linked the paid version of each one as well.

We will update this page as the videos go live.

I can’t wait to crochet with you!!
🩷Ashley

Up Next

Next month people are going to start getting into the “spring spirit”. Start pre-planning spring cleaning content, Mardi Gras, St. Patricks Day, and Easter makes!

We have an amazing spring cleaning round-up coming out in February, you won’t want to miss that one!

Calendar Section

On the next page of the content calendar, you will have an overview of February, and at the bottom of the page, there are some more sections. Let’s take a look at…

This Month

  • Black History Month
  • National Heart Month
  • Creative Romance Month
  • National Wedding’s Month
  • National Snack Food Month
  • National Embroidery Month
  • National Bake for Family Fun Month
  • National Cancer Prevention Month
  • American Heart Month

If any of these stand out to you as something your ideal customer would be celebrating or participating in, make notes of ways you can promote them!

Be sure to make it specific to your ideal customer!

Holidays

Groundhog Day: February 2nd- This is actually my husband’s birthday. He’s turning 35 this year!

World Cancer Day: February 4th- If you sell beanies specific to people who have lost their hair, today would be a good day to share your story.

The Grammys: February 5th- There could be a viral moment that you can take a meme and make it applicable to your business!

Here is how I incorporated last year’s Grammys viral moment 😉

Good times, good times.

Send a Card to a Friend: February 7th- You could design a card on Canva, and share the digital copy with your ideal customer!

National Pizza Day: February 9th– If pizza makes sense for your brand and your ideal customer, be sure to celebrate! Share a photo of your pizza-themed items, you enjoying pizza, or even ask your audience what their favorite kind of pizza is! That is sure to get some engagement.

Super Bowl 57: February 12th- Be sure to start making those football-themed items ahead of time so you have time to promote them before the big game!

Valentine’s Day: February 14th- Use the beginning of the month to share your Valentine’s Day products. Share how your products would be perfect to gift to your ideal customer loved ones. Be specific, you want your ideal customer to have an easy YES!

Random Acts of Kindness Day: February 17th- I love this day! One year me and Ava went to our local college and handed out Bonfire beanies. They had cards on them that said “Random Act of Kindness Day- Here is a Blessing Beanie!”

You can share with your audience what you and your family plan on doing, or even offer a sale to your customers to celebrate!

President’s Day: February 20th- If you sell political items or USA-themed items, today is a good day to promote them!

My mind immediately went to Ali of The Turtle Trunks American Flag Blanket!

Mardi Gras: February 21st- Make the day festive. You can use colors like Purple, Gold, and Green in your products.

National Margarita Day: February 22nd

National Banana Bread Day: February 23rd

Crochet Boss Academy Opens: February 27th

Follow this beginner crochet cow pattern and learn how to make the easiest amigurumi cow ever! Complete with a full video tutorial.

Named after the customer that bought the first Mia Moo Moo from my Etsy shop back in 2016, this crochet cow pattern is on my list of favorite stuffy designs of all time.

If you want the ad-free PDF download for this pattern you can grab it through the link below in my shop for only $3.00

The video that goes with this pattern is for all the “cow bits” but if you need to watch a video for the body you can check out the Ava Bunny video! The cow body is exactly like the bunny body.

After you finish your cow body, stuffed, eyes the whole thing, you can watch the video that goes with THIS pattern to see how to make an attach all the cow bits.

Here’s what you will need to make your own crochet cow amigurumi

Materials
Size F or 3.75mm crochet hook
– We Crochet Brava yarn in the colors White, Asphalt Heather, and Cotton Candy. Also a tiny bit of cream color worsted weight yarn.
Tapestry Needle
Scissors
Polyfill
12mm Safety Eyes
– Sewing Pins

*I have linked most of the supplies I used in the materials section above.

STITCH KEY (US TERMS)

CH- Chain
SC- Single Crochet
INC- Increase (in this case- 2 SC in the same stitch)
DEC- Decrease, in this case, invisible decrease (explained below)
SLST- Slip Stitch
DC- Double Crochet
HDC- Half Double Crochet
* To be repeated

SPECIAL STITCHES

  • Magic Circle –We will be using the Magic Circle method for this crochet cow pattern. If you are unfamiliar with this technique I will link a good YouTube video for you here.
  • Invisible Decrease – invisible single crochet decrease – insert hook into front loop of next stitch, then insert your hook into the front loop of the following stitch (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and draw through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 remaining loops on hook.
  • Continuous Rounds – This pattern is worked in continuous rounds without joining. After you finish the stitches of one round, start right on the next without joining between. I find it handy to use a stitch marker (or a piece of yarn) to mark the start of each round so you know when each round starts/ends.
  • Color Changes – change colors at the end of the round. Complete last single crochet of the round until the last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and pull through last step of the single crochet. So your single crochet will go like this: insert hook into last stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over with new color, pull through both loops on hook.

Before You Start- Important

If you do plan on selling these cuties in your shop (either online or at markets), And I hope you do, I would include a warning that it is made with small pieces, and children under 3 should be supervised when playing with them.

The safety eyes are in there REALLY GOOD and they’re super hard to pull apart after you snap them shut, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Crochet Cow Pattern

Follow this beginner crochet cow pattern and learn how to make the easiest amigurumi cow ever! Complete with a full video tutorial.

Starting with your first leg and using your Asphalt Heather yarn

Round 1: SC 6 into magic circle (6)

Round 2: INC in each stitch around (12)

Round 3: INC, SC* around 6 times (18)

Round 4: INC, SC, SC* around 6 times (24)

Rounds 5: SC in each stitch around (24)

Switch to white yarn when completing the 24th SC.

Using your white yarn

Rounds 6-13: SC in each stitch around (24)

SLST into the next space and tie off.

Repeat rounds 1-13 for your second leg, but do not cut your yarn and tie off.

Sew in your tails you made when starting each foot.

We are going to start Round 14 working on the second leg- this will be the first round of our crochet cow body.

Round 14: SC 24

Grab your first leg and place a SLST in the SLST from where you tied off in Round 13 of leg 1.

SC in the same space where you SLST to tie off Round 13 from leg 1.

So you are slip stitching into a slip stitch- then putting a single crochet into the same space where the original slip stitch was. If this is confusing please refer to 22-minute mark in the Ava Bunny video.

This is the best way I could get it where there wasn’t a hole between the two legs that would have to be stitched closed. If you prefer to stitch up a small hole that’s totally fine. The main thing is round 14 has 48 stitches total, 24sc for the first leg and 24sc for the second leg.

SC 23 more times around the leg.  (48 stitches total in Round 14)

SLST into the same space as your 24th sc from Round 13 on leg 2. Non of the slip stitches count as a stitch, they’re just creating the desired shape of our cow.

Round 15-31: SC around (48)

Before we start our decreases we’re gonna do a few things. Pull up a big loop from your working yarn so you don’t accidentally pull out any stitches.

Sew in all your tails using a tapestry needle. (I show how I do this on the Ava Bunny video if you need a visual)

Stuff the bottom half of your cow with polyfill.

Position the Eyes centered on the face and between Rounds 27 and 28. I usually have about 3 stitches between my eyes.

Ok back to our crochet cow pattern!

Insert your hook back into the loop you left up and begin Round 32.

Round 32: SC 6, DEC* around 6 times (42) – I prefer the invisible decrease method here for a cleaner look.

Round 33: SC 5, DEC* around 6 times (36)

Round 34: SC 4, DEC* around 6 times (30)

Round 35: SC 3, DEC* around 6 times (24)

Finish stuffing your cow amigurumi.

Round 36: SC 2, DEC* around 6 times (18)

Add any more stuffing if necessary.

Round 37: SC 1, DEC* around 6 times (12)

Round 38: DEC around 6 times (6) Cut your yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.

Thread your tail onto a tapestry needle and close the top of your cow by picking up the front loop of every stitch and pulling your tail through all the loops. (I show how to do this in the Ava Bunny video)

Finish sewing in your tail.

Follow this beginner crochet cow pattern and learn how to make the easiest amigurumi cow ever! Complete with a full video tutorial.

Time to make all the cow bits in this crochet cow pattern!

Snout– Using your Cotton Candy yarn

Chain 8

Row 1: Skip the chain closest to your hook and SC 3 in the next stitch. SC one time in the next 5 stitches.

SC 6 in the last stitch. SC 5 back up the other side of your chain. SC 3 in the last stitch.

Join into the top of your first SC, CH 1. (22)

Row 2: SC INC in the first 3 stitches. SC in the next 5 stitches. SC INC in the next 6 stitches (around the end). SC in the next 5 stitches. SC INC in the last 3 stitches. Join into the top of the first SC. (34)

Row 3: SC in the first stitch, INC in the next* Repeat that 2 more times. SC in the next 5 stitches.

SC in the next stitch, INC in the next* Repeat that 4 more times. SC in the next 5 stitches.

SC in the next stitch, INC in the next* Repeat that 2 more times. Join into the top of the first SC. (46)

Tie off leaving a long tail for attaching your snout onto your cow body.

Stitch on the nose holes with your Asphalt Heather yarn and a tapestry needle.

Ears
Make one ear White and one ear Asphalt Heather

The Ears are made in a continuous round.

Round 1: SC 6 into a magic circle (6)

Round 2: INC in each stitch around (12)

Round 3: INC, SC* around (18)

Rounds 4-12: SC in each stitch (18)

Tie off leaving a long tail for attaching. Sew in your tail from round 1.

Inner Ear – Make 2
Using the Cotten Candy yarn

CH 6

Skip the chain closest to your hook and SC in each of the next 4 stitches.

SC 6 in the last chain space

SC 4 back up the other side of your starting chain.

Tie off leaving a long tail for sewing onto your larger ear piece.

Sew your inner ear pieces onto your big ear pieces using your tapestry needle and the whip stitch.

Horns– Make 2
The horns are made in a continuous round.

Using your cream yarn

Round 1: Sc 6 into a magic circle (6)

Round 2: INC, SC 5 (7)

Round 3: SC 3, INC, SC 3 (8)

Round 4: SC 5, INC, SC 2 (9)

Round 5: INC, SC 8 (10)

Tie off leaving a long tail for attaching to your cow.

Big Patches – Make 2

The patches are a little funky to give it that “organic” look so just take it slow and bare with me. If you need extra help skip to the 24:30 mark in the video that goes with THIS pattern.

Using your Asphalt Heather yarn

Round 1: SC 7 into a magic circle (7)

This next round is created by increasing in every stitch around, but it’s tricky because it’s not two of the same stitches. Each stitch combo between commas goes into a single stitch together.

Round 2: SC-HDC, DC-DC, HDC-SC, HDC-DC, DC-DC, DC-HDC, HDC-SC (14)

For round 3 we will be doing the same thing. The stitch combos between the commas go into the same stitch together. Not all the stitches in round 3 are increase stitches though so be mindful of that when you are reading the instructions.

Round 3: SC-SC, HDC, DC-DC, DC, HDC-SC, SC, HDC-DC, DC, DC-HDC, SC, SC-HDC, DC, DC-DC, HDC (21)

Ok one more round and you’re golden.

Round 4: SC-SC, SC, HDC, HDC-DC, DC-DC, HDC-SC, SC, SC-HDC, DC-DC, DC, DC-DC, HDC-SC, SC, HDC-DC, DC-DC, HDC-SC, HDC, DC-DC, DC, DC-HDC, SC (34)

Tie off and leave a long tail for attaching onto your cow body.

Sew in your first tail.

Small Patch- Make 1

Repeat rounds 1-3 of the big spot but stop after round 3.

Tie off and leave a long tail for attaching onto your cow body.

Sew in your first tail.

How to assemble your crochet cow

I like to start with the snout.

Pin it in the center of your cow’s face, just below the eyes.

Whipstitch the snout onto the body using a tapestry needle.

Tie off and sew in your tail.

Next up, the patches.

I like to pin one big patch on the left side of the head, and one centered on the right side of the cow and the small patch just above his left “hoof”.

Use your pins to hold down one patch at a time while you whip stitch it with a tapestry needle.

Tie off and sew in your tail.

Repeat for all 3 patches.

Time for the Ears.

Fold each year in half, hot dog style, and sew them onto the sides of your cow’s head. I like to use pins to line up where the front and back ends of each ear will go.

Sew them on by going into the body of the cow then into the opposite side of the ear. Back into the body of the cow, back through the opposite side of the ear and so on and so forth until your ear is attached.

Do this for both ears.

Follow this beginner crochet cow pattern and learn how to make the easiest amigurumi cow ever! Complete with a full video tutorial.

Last but not least the horns.

Use your hears to help you line up where the horns should go. I use one pin on each horn to hold it in place, while still allowing me to adjust it as I go.

After you whip stitch a few times, stuff your horns with a tiny bit of poly-filL, then continue to whip stitch it to your cow head.

I know for many people, change can be difficult. I know this to be true because I am one of those people! A little more than a year ago, I went through a major life change. I went from working away from home at a job that I adored to becoming a stay-at-home mom to pursue my maker side-gig.

At first, this change was so hard! Then as I worked on building my business, I found so many amazing people in the crochet community. Each one of these new friends was like a beautiful flower blooming on a fresh spring morning. Change was happening in my life, and it was BEAUTIFUL!

This month’s roundup focuses on BEAUTIFUL makes that you can whip up as Easter basket fillers!

Guys, you are going to love the gorgeous colors and designs as you look through these. Wouldn’t it be great to have a completely handmade Easter and fill your baskets with crocheted goodies? (and candy of course…)

As you enjoy looking at all of the beautiful Easter crochet patterns in this post, be reminded that change may be hard, but we must all remember that like spring brings new flowers and new colors, change brings…

…new friends and new opportunities!

SPECIAL STITCHES

Bobble: *yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook* Repeat 3 more times. Now you should have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on your hook. (do not chain after this, just go straight into your next stitch)

HDC in the Camel Hump: Stitch is just a regular half double crochet, the only difference is the placement of the stitch. This will be explained within the pattern.

Foundation HDC: Chain 2. YO, insert your hook into the first CH space, YO, pull up a loop. YO, pull through 1 (this is where you will insert your hook for the second stitch). YO, pull through all three loops on your hook.

YO, insert your hook into the CH space you made while making the first stitch. YO, pull up a loop. YO, pull through 1 (this is where you will insert your hook for the third stitch). YO, pull through all three loops on your hook. Repeat until you have the desired amount of stitches.

Crochet Boho Bobble Twist Headband Pattern

With your H 5.0mm crochet hook, make a slip knot.

Row 1: Foundation Half Double Crochet 57 (child- 53. Toddler- 49.) CH 1. Turn your work. (A 57, C 53, T 49)

This is explained under special stitches. If you need extra help, please refer to the video that goes with this post.

Row 2: SC 7, *Bobble, SC* across for 43 total stitches. SC 7. CH 1. Turn your work. (A 57, C 53, T 49)

For the child and toddler sizes you SC 5 at the beginning and end of each row instead of 7 like the adult size.

Row 3: HDC across. CH 1. Turn your work. (A 57, C 53, T 49)

Row 4: HDC in the camel hump across. CH 1. Turn your work. (A 57, C 53, T 49)

To find the camel hump, rotate your work forward (away from you) and locate the loop just under the “v” where you normally put your hook. YO, insert your hook into that loop, in the bottom out the top. This will push your “v” loops towards the right-side of your headband (where the bobble stitches pop out) creating a knit-like texture. Place your HDC there.

This is explained in detail in the video that goes with this post.

Row 5: HDC in the camel hump across. CH 1. Turn your work. (A 57, C 53, T 49)

To find the camel hump, rotate your work towards you and locate the loop just under the “v” where you normally put your hook. YO, insert your hook into that loop, in the top out the bottom. Creating the twist

Pull up a long loop just so you can set your hook down without your work unraveling.

Fold both ends of your work in half, hot dog style, where the bobble stitches are touching each other.

Learn how to make this super trendy crochet twisted headband style ear warmer. Full video tutorial included!

Then kinda sandwich them together.

You’re making a sort of zig-zag with the 4 ends of your headband.

This is much easier to explain in the video so if it’s confusing to you be sure to check that out.

Use a clip of some kind to hold your work in the sandwiched position.

Learn how to make this super trendy crochet twisted headband style ear warmer. Full video tutorial included!

Your working yarn should be in the top right corner now. Insert your hook back into the loop you left on your working yarn.

Now we are going to slip stitch the raw edges of our sandwiched ends all together. You will need to make your own spaces for your hook to go since this is the raw edge of our work.

Insert your hook through all 4 walls of our zig-zag sandwich, YO, pull through all the stitches and the loop on your hook for one SL ST.

Insert your hook into the next space, going through all 4 walls again, YO, and pull through all the stitches and loops on your hook. That’s your second SL ST.

Continue to slip stitch the ends together, all the way across your zig-zag sandwich.

Secure the end by tying off. Sew in your tails. Flip your headband right side out and TA-DAY Boho Bobble Twist Headband!!!

Materials
Worsted weight yarn color A (backpack)
Worsted weight yarn color B (spikes and drawstrings)
4.0mm Crochet Hook
4.5mm Crochet hook
Scissors
Tapestry Needle
Stitch markers or scrap yarn

Stitch Key (US Terms)
CH= Chain
SC= Single Crochet
INC= Increase (put two stitches in the same space. In this case, single crochet stitches)
SL ST= Slip Stitch
JAYG= Join as you go

Special Stitches

Join as you go (JAYG): This is a joining technique I learned from Cypress Textiles while making her Trellis and Chevron baby blanket about 3 years ago and I have used it ever since! I love joining this way because it’s faster, there are fewer tails to weave in and it makes a really pretty join.

This is used when you are taking two crochet pieces and joining them together.

*Insert your hook into piece A and SC. Remove your hook from the loop.

Insert your hook into the same stitch but on piece B. Grab the loop still attached to piece A and pull it through piece B’s stitch. Repeat from *.

That was easier to explain in words than I thought it’d be! If you’re still not sure what’s happening though, there are pictures here in the pattern or you can jump to the 35:00 mark on the youtube video.

Back Bump: This is where you flip your starting chain over and insert your hook into the “back bump” of the chain and place your stitch there. If you are unfamiliar with this technique I would suggest watching this tutorial below by Fiber Flux on YouTube.

Crochet Dinosaur Backpack

Body | Make two
With your 4.5mm crochet hook and your A yarn
Make a slip knot and CH 41.

Row 1: Skip the back bump closest to your hook, SC 40 in each back bump. CH 1, turn. (40)

Rows 2-9: SC 40. CH 1, turn. (40)

Now we are going to turn our work into a little tunnel for the draw strings to go through.

Row 10: Fold your work in half, hot dog style, so that row 9 and row 1 are touching.

Making sure your stitches are lined up, SC row 9 and row 1 together with 40 SC. CH 1, turn. (40)

Tip: the side of your work you are seeing when you crochet row 10 is the “right side”. Put a stitch parker or a scrap piece of yarn on the “wrong side” so you know during assembly which side is which.

Rows 11- 56: SC 40. CH 1, turn. (40)

Tie off and sew in your tails.

Spikes | Make 4

Using your 4.5 mm crochet hook and your B yarn

Spikes are made crocheting in the round. So we won’t be joining and chaining up, it will be just a continuous round.

Round 1: SC 6 into a magic circle. Put a stitch marker in the 6th SC so you will know which stitch was the last stitch in the round. (6)

Round 2: INC in the first stitch (the 1st sc in round 1), SC 2, INC , SC 2 (8)

Move your stitch marker into the 8th SC in round 2. Continue moving your stitch marker to the last stitch in each round.

Round 3: INC in the first stitch, SC 3, INC, SC 3 (10)

Round 4: INC in the first stitch, SC 4, INC, SC 4 (12)

Round 5: INC in the first stitch, SC 5, INC, SC 5 (14)

Round 6: INC in the first stitch, SC 6, INC, SC 6 (16)

Round 7: INC in the first stitch, SC 7, INC, SC 7 (18)

Round 8: INC in the first stitch, SC 8, INC, SC 8 (20)

Round 9: SC in each stitch around (20)

Tie off and sew in your tails.

After all your tails are sewn in, pick up one of your spikes, flatten it between your fingers, and insert your hook into the right side corner. SL ST the spike closed all the way down.

When you reach the end of the first spike, pick up your second spike and continue SL ST down the second spike.

Do this until all 4 spikes are slip stitched in a row together. Tie off and leave a long tail for attaching onto the backpack. (like 24-36” long)

The slip stitching creates a nice base for the spikes to be attached to the backpack, and joining them all together makes sewing them onto the backpack easier.

More Easy Crochet Backpack Patterns

Drawstrings | Make 2

Using your 4.0mm hook and yarn B color (same as spikes) crochet an i-cord that is about 49” long.

How to make an i-cord (or you can skip to 20:30 in the video to see me make an i-cord)

CH 3. With the loop from the 3rd CH still on your hook, insert your hook into the second CH from your hook and pull up a loop. Now you have 2 loops on your hook.

Insert your hook into the 3rd CH from your hook and pull up another loop. Now you have 3 loops on your hook and this is where is starts to get weird.

* Take your hook out of the 2nd and 3rd loops BUT don’t let the loops fall out, leave them looped up just without your hook in them.

Grab your working yarn and gently pull through the loop thats still on your hook.

Insert your hook into the 2nd loop from your hook (first loop being on your hook already), pull up a loop. (2 loops total now)

Insert your hook into the 3rd loop from your hook, pull up a loop. (3 loops total now)

Then you just start all over from * until it’s about 49″ long. (If you making one for a young adult or an adult you will need to make your straps a few inches longer than 49″)

Spike assembly

Fold the back piece of your backpack in half, hot dog style. Use a binder clip to clamp the piece together (where the sides come together, not on the actual folded side) so it will stay folded.

With contrasting yarn, sew a running stitch down the folded side. This is just a temporary line to help you line up your spikes.

Line your first spike so it’s in the center of the backpack and so the top edge (where your tail is) is just under the bottom of the drawstring tunnel.

Thread your tail onto a tapestry needle and begin sewing the spikes onto the backpack.

If you need to see this being done you can skip to the 27:50 mark in the video.

Backpack Assembly

The backpack pieces will be joined using the Join As You Go method. It is explained under special stitches, but I will explain it again (with pictures here).

You can also skip to the 35:00 mark in the video to see it if that will help you more. If you are still struggling with the JAYG method, you can probably just SC the pieces together if you’d like, your seem will just look different.

Lay your two backpack pieces together, right sides touching and with the drawstring tunnels at the top. Lay your spikes down flat so it doesn’t get in your way of joining the backpack.

Let’s refer to the piece on top as piece T (for top) and the piece on bottom as piece B (for bottom)

You will be working along the raw edge so you’ll have to make your own spots for joining the sides of the backpack, but the spots are pretty easy to see once you get the hang of it.

You have one spot that looks like you are going under a bar, then the next spot looks like you are going into a little hole.

So you’ll go bar, hole, bar, hole all the way down.

Insert your hook into the first stitch after the tunnel on T, attach your yarn with a CH.

Tip: This stitch will look like a bar

Insert your hook into the first stitch after the tunnel on B, place a SC.

Tip: this stitch will look like a hole

Take your hook out of the loop thats on your hook after completing the SC.

Insert your hook back into the same space where you joined the yarn on T. (bar)

Grab the loop, pull it through.

You will repeat this all the way down the left side of the backpack for a total of 45 JAYO stitches.

Tip: Your next SC should be going into a Bar space on B.

Now it’s time to JAYG across the bottom of the backpack. This is much simpler because you can actually see where the stitches you need to be joining together are.

After you finish your 45th stitch on the left  side, insert your hook into the first stitch on the bottom of B and SC.

Take your hook out of the loop, insert your hook into the first stitch on the bottom of T, grab your loop and pull it through.

Next insert your hook into the 2nd stitch on the bottom of B and complete the JAYG stitch by pulling through the second stitch on the bottom of T.

Continue attaching the bottom for a total of 40 stitches.

One more side and you’re finished with the JAYG method!

Right after you finish the 40th stitch across the bottom, go directly into the first space (bar) on B, put a SC then pull the loop through the first space on T (hole).

Continue back up the right hand side of the backpack for 45 stitches.

Tie off and sew in your tails. Flip your back right side out.

Drawstring Assembly

To add the draw strings you will need to use a crochet hook (one without a rubber handle works best) to thread your straps through the tunnels we created when making the body pieces.

If you are looking at your backpack, right side up (spikes on the back), your first strap will go into the left side of the front piece and out the right side of the front piece. Then you will thread it through the back piece, going into the right side and out the left side.

For the second strap you do the complete opposite. Go in the front piece right side and out the left, then in the back piece left side and out the right.

Using your crochet hook, pull the ends of the straps into the backpack and knot them together. The knot should be on the inside of the backpack.

Tip: It helped me to put the backpack inside out again for this step.

Sew in any remaining tails and you’re all finished!!

I hope you guys love this pattern!! If you make a Dino Backpack please tag me in the pics @ACraftyConcept because I would LOVE to see them! I’m always obsessed with all the beautiful color combinations y’all come up with!

Flower Bitty Boho Bag Modification

Happy Friday!!! Today I have a lovely flowery Bitty Boho Bag Modification for you guys! One of the things I love about the Bitty Boho Bag is how easy it is to modify the pattern for all different kinds of styles and looks! You can make a mod for every season, holiday, event, basically, anything you could want I’m sure there’s a way to do it with the Bitty Boho Bag!

Some of the links in this post may be affiliate links, meaning I may receive a small commission, at NO ADDITIONAL cost to you, from purchases made using the links provided.

Since its May and I’m feeling some serious spring vibes, I thought a flower Bitty Boho Bag modification would be perfect! If you have a spring craft show coming up, this would be a great project for building up stock quickly! Plus with all the different colors and designs they will be a great eye catcher piece! They would also be great gifts for any kiddos with spring birthdays coming up!!

I am going to show you 3 fun flower ideas you can make and sew on to the front of your bitty boho bag. The only thing that changes about the pattern itself is you make the front piece of the bag in all Single Crochet stitches instead of the Bobble stitches. If you do not have the Bitty Boho Bag pattern yet you can purchase it HERE as an instant download!

Here’s what you will need
– A finished Bitty Boho Bag (without the bobble stitches)
– Yarn ( these flowers don’t take much)
– G Hook- Mine is a mermaid tail hook from Harper Baby Shop
– Scissors
– Tapestry Needle

Rosetta

I love this rosetta flower design. It is so simple to make and turns out beautiful! You can sew these onto nearly anything! But for today we will just stick to a Bitty Boho Bag ????

This is made working in the round so you may need a stitch marker or scrap piece of yarn.
All increase stitches in the Rosetta flower are Single Crochet Increases.

Stitches Used
SC- Single Crochet
BLO- Back loop only- Put your stitch into the back loop only instead of under both loops like normal.
INC- Increase- Two stitches in the same space
*- To Be Repeated
SS- Slip Stitch
CH- Chain

Start by making a magic circle and CH 1.

Round 1: SC 8 into the magic circle. Put your stitch marker into the 8th SC so you will know where your next round needs to end. (8)

Round 2: SC INC into each of the 8 stitches from round one BLO. Move your stitch marker to the last SC (16)

Round 3: *SC, INC* 8 times around BLO. Move your stitch marker to the last SC (24)

Round 4: *SC, SC, INC* 8 times around BLO. Move your stitch marker to the last SC (32)

Round 5: *SC, SC, SC, INC* 8 times around BLO (40)

CH 1 and turn your work.

Now we are going to go back into all the stitches we just made with a SC. The first 40 SC will be under both loops (these are the 40 SC from round 5) then after that, you will place your SC into the exposed Front Loops from rounds 1-4.

*SC, SC, SC, SC, INC* repeat until you get back to the very center of the rose. SS into the last exposed Front Loop and tie off leaving a long tail for attaching to the bag.

Sew in your first tail you made (around the magic circle). Pull your long tail down into the center of your rose and out the bottom, then thread your tapestry needle onto your long tail.

Line your rosetta up onto your Bitty Boho Bag then begin attaching by pushing your tapestry needle down into the body of the flower and into the bag, then back up from the inside of the bag and out the flower. Just follow the spiral until the entire flower is secure. You’re all finished!!

Ruffle Flower

This ruffle flower may be my favorite crochet flower pattern! I really need to put one of these cuties on a Crafty Cactus Pillow! It adds a lot of dimension and texture to Bitty Boho Bags!

Stitches Used
SC- Single Crochet
HDC- Half Double Crochet
DC- Double Crochet
BLO- Back loop only- Put your stitch into the back loop only instead of under both loops like normal.
INC- Increase- Two stitches in the same space
*- To Be Repeated
SS- Slip Stitch
CH- Chain

Start by making a magic circle and CH 1.

Row 1: HDC 10 times into the magic circle. Join back into your first HDC. CH 1. (10)

Row 2: HDC INC in every stitch around BLO. Join back into your first HDC. CH 1. (20)

Row 3: *HDC, INC* 10 times BLO. Join back into your first HDC. CH 1. (30)

Row 4: *SC, SC, SC INC* 10 times BLO. Join back into your first SC. (40) Tie off.

Insert your hook into one of the exposed Front Loops from Row 1. CH 2 and DC 3 into the same stitch.

DC 4 times into every exposed front loop stitch from Row 1. Join back into the first DC and tie off.

Insert your hook into one of the exposed Front Loops from Row 3. CH 2 and DC 3 into the same stitch.

DC 4 times into every exposed front loop stitch from Row 3. Join back into the first DC and tie off.

Sew in all your tails and you’re finished! Line your newly completed flower up on the front of your boho bag and begin attaching it similarly to the way you attached your rosetta. Just go in and out of the flower (kinda at the bottom of the ruffle stitches) until its nice and secure.

Bhooked’s Popcorn Flower

I have always been a sucker for this flower design! I use it on everything! I’ve also seen a couple of you guys use this flower on your bitty boho bags already (yay creativity!) so I thought I better include it in this post since its so pretty!

You can find the written instructions here at www.bhookedcrochet.com. Or, if you like videos, you can watch Brittany crochet a popcorn stitch flower in her YouTube video. For the bitty boho bag, I find its best to stop after the second row of popcorn stitches.

Once you complete your flower (leaving a long tail for sewing), line it up on your bag so you know where you need to attach it. I put a folded piece of paper in my bitty boho bag to prevent me from accidentally sewing the front and back pieces together while attaching the flower.

For this flower I though a whip stitch would be the fastest, cleanest option. Just insert your tapestry needle into the body of the back then poke your needle back up through one of your stitches in the flower. Pull your yarn through the stitch and go directly back down into the bag (your yarn kinda goes around the edge of your flower), poke back up into one of your stitches and continue around until your entire flower is attached.

Now you’re all finished!
