Gauge
Gauge isn’t required for this project, but the finished strawberry plant holder is about 4″ – 4.5″.

Before You Start
To keep the seam fairly straight, we will alternate where we put our first and last stitch in a few rows. The first SC of each row is in the same stitch as your join, unless otherwise stated. In the rows where you skip the first stitch, your last SC will be squished in next to your starting chain. This is explained in detail in the video Time Stamp 06:22

do not recommend using the color Cherry Blossom for this pattern, it was all I had on hand and looks very fleshy lol. A red or pink looks much better.

Crochet Strawberry Plant Holder

Starting with your body color yarn – make a slip knot and CH 30
We’re going to create a loop with this chain. Making sure your chain doesn’t twist, join to the back bump of the first chain, CH 1. (Time Stamp: 1:33)

Row 1: SC 30 in each back bump of the CH. Join into the top of the first SC, CH 1. (30)
Row 2: SC 30, join into the first SC, CH 1. (30)

Rows 3-10 have staggered increases so none line up on top of each other This helps the finished work lays more flat without any puckering. (Time Stamp: 4:36)

Strawberry Seeds
Using a long length of your seed color yarn and a tapestry needle

The seeds will go on the lower half of your work and they are created by embroidering vertical lines approximately 3 rows tall. You’ll create 4 rows of seeds working one row of seeds at a time.
If you’d like further instruction please reference the video. (Time Stamp 30:05)

Once you’ve tied off your last seed, bring the top of your work inside itself so that the tube you created is in half with both ends matching up with each other. (Time Stamp 36:30)

Gently start stuffing with poly-fil putting most of your stuffing towards the closed end of your tube, and very lightly stuffing towards the open end. Shape to smooth so that the stuffing is even around.

Finishing the Strawberry Body- Time Stamp 39:20
Bring some of your working yarn up through the center of the strawberry body, insert your hook into the stitch across from your working yarn loop, grab the working yarn and pull through the stitch, CH 1.

To join the two sides of the strawberry sleeve, work in the BLO of the outer layer’s stitches, and the whole stitch of the inner layer’s stitches.

Row 1: SC 30 around working through both layers at the same time. Join into the top of the first stitch, CH 1. (30)

Row 2: DEC 15, tie off leaving a long tail for closing the bottom. (15)

Lightly weave long tail by picking up the FLO of each stitch and gently pulling to make the hole smaller but not completely closed. (Time Stamp 44:33)

Sew tail in by running under the FLO stitches one more time.

Turn the strawberry slightly inside out so you can tie off the working yarn without messing up the stuffing, sew in your tails.
