Whenever I research tips on running a successful Creative Business, like an Etsy shop, the first thing at the top of every list is GOOD PHOTOGRAPHY!! It’s super important for an online shop to have good pictures, that show the true color and size of your items; since people cannot hold your products in their hands and see them for themselves. Natural light is key to taking a good picture, along with having a nice clean background, so nothing distracts from your product. 

A lot of people ask me where I got the backdrop I use for my Instagram photos. Honestly, I got really lucky; I found it in a pile of junk while helping my mamaw move. Recently, I went to Lowes, and when I was looking for stuff to remodel my laundry room, I saw a big sheet of my backdrop there on the shelf! The more I looked around, the more I noticed that Lowes has LOTS of wall panel options for backdrops. A few weeks later my wonderful husband, Gabe, and I got a babysitter and headed to back to Lowes with a camera and a bag full of crochet goodies. We grabbed a cart and walked to the back of our store, where the wall panelling options are. We put one of each panel style on the cart and, after a little tiff with a Lowes employee, we went outside under their loading awning to take some pictures. I wanted to get sample pictures of crochet items on each backdrop, in natural light, so you could see a good example of what they might look like in your pictures.

Each panel is approximately 4 ft wide and 8 ft long. This size is not ideal for photographing because it isn’t very portable, and you do not need such a big backdrop if you will be photographing small things like beanies or amigurumi. The good news is, for a small charge, Lowes will cut them for you! ( I think it’s only $0.25 per cut) You could easily go in with another maker and have the panel cut in half saving you some money and leaving both of you with an awesome new backdrop for your product photos!

Notes: This panel is great for photos. Its  light weight, but a little more flimsy. Once you cut it down to a more practical size though I don’t think it would be too flimsy. This panel is also less textured than the Trubead panel above and has a little bit of a gloss to it.Name: Purimpresion White Beaded
Dimensions: .25 in x 4ft x 8ft.

Material: MDF
Notes: This panel is the heaviest of all the panels I photographed. It is very bulky and durable. It has a beautiful texture and can be painted with latex paint if you prefer a color other than white.
