The Snowy Owl Hand Puppet is made with a super soft and cuddly yarn, great for play and snuggles! The head is worked from the top down, in the round, with no joining. The rest of the body with the crocodile stitches, continues in joining and turning rnds. The arms, wing feathers, and eyes are made separately and sewn on. The beak is stitched on with black worsted weight yarn. Special stitches are described in detail below, and a video is provided for the crocodile stitch!

Crochet Owl Puppet Materials
Hook:
5mm H hook
Yarn:
THE HOOK NOOK, Yummy, Cookies & Cream -Tweed(A) – approximately 135 yds
Small amount of worsted weight black and yellow yarns for the beak and eyes.
Other:
Stitch marker
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Stitch Key (US Terms)
magic ring
rnd, rnds – round, rounds
st, sts – stitch, stitches
sl st – slip stitch
sk – skip
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
inc – increase, 2 sc sts in same st
FLO – front loop only
BLO – back loop only
Special Stitches:
invsc2tog – invisible single crochet 2 together; this is essentially a decrease, but done in such a way as to make the continuous stitching smoother, and the decrease not as noticeable.
- Insert hook into front loop only of next stitch, DO NOT yarn over.
- Insert hook into front loop of second stitch.
- Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.
- Yarn over and pull through last 2 loops
crocodile st – crocodile stitch (working to the left) *For these instructions to make sense, it is easiest to have a flat surface (table or desk). Place the puppet head up as shown in the photo below, to begin. After step 6, turn work back to where you started to create the next crocodile st.
- Yarn over. (there should be 2 loops on hook to begin) Working to the left, insert hook around next st POST, as though working a front post st.
- Work 4 total dc around that post, in the same manner.
- Ch 1
- Rotate work 180 degrees to the left so that the puppet head is now facing downward, on your flat surface.
- Yarn over. Insert hook around the next st post, right to left.
- Work 4 total dc around that post.
Gauge
(sc portion) 6 sts across and 7 rnds down = approximately 2 inches

Using your tapestry needle, sew the black yarn into a triangle on the front center of the face, with the top of the beak a flat line covering 2 sts just below rnd 11, with the bottom point of the beak just below rnd 14.
Then fill in the beak sewing the black yarn over rnds 14 to 12 from point to across the top.

Rnd 3: ch 2, 2 hdc in same st as joining, hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, leave remaining 5 sts unworked, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew the eyes into place on the head, just above the beak, so that some of the eyes go into the same row as the top of the beak. Sew around the posts of the cookies and cream parts, so that they’re not sewn down completely.
Weave in ends.
