Crochet Kitchen Towel Set Materials

Hook:

US H/5.0 mm

Yarn:

Medium (weight # 4) cotton yarn.

I used approximately 285 yards of I Love This Cotton yarn in the color Periwinkle for the solid-colored towel.

For the HOME towel, I used approximately 310 yards of I Love This Cotton yarn in the color White for the main color and approximately 40 yards of I Love This Cotton yarn in the color Periwinkle for the accent color.

About 2 skeins of each color was enough to make both towels

Other:

2 Buttons (1.25 inch)

Yarn Needle

Scissors

Stitch Key (US Terms)

SC (Single Crochet): Insert hook in stitch, yarn over and draw the loop through the stitch (2 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through both loops

DC (Double Crochet): Yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over and draw the loop through the stitch (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through two loops on hook, yarn over and pull through remaining two loops on hook

SC2TOG (Single Crochet Two Stitches Together): Insert hook in stitch, yarn over and draw the loop through the stitch (2 loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw the loop through the stitch, yarn over and pull through all three loops on hook

DC2TOG (Double Crochet Two Stitches Together): Yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over and draw the loop through the stitch (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through two loops on hook (2 loops remain on hook), yarn over and insert hook in stitch, yarn over and draw the loop through the stitch (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through two loops (3 loops remain on hook), yarn over and pull through all three loops

Pattern Notes

This pattern includes the instructions to make two different towels, one solid-colored towel and one with the word HOME

The number in parentheses after each row represents the number of stitches that each row should have

The HOME towel uses the tapestry crochet method.

Each square on the graph represents one single crochet stitch. I recommend printing the graph and marking the rows as you go.

The graph is read from the bottom to the top. The odd rows are read from right to left and the even rows from left to right

Chain 1 and turn after every row

When you are crocheting odd rows, the yarn naturally falls to the backside of the pillow when changing colors.

When you are crocheting even rows, it is important to make sure you pull the yarn to the backside when you are changing colors otherwise your strand will be in front of the pillow and there is no way to fix it without pulling out the row.

For this towel, I prefer to add a new strand of yarn for each color change.  That way you do not see any floats from the backside.  Just try to keep your strands organized so they do not get tangled.

Solid Colored Crochet Kitchen Towel Instructions:

Row 1: Chain 57, SC in second chain from hook, DC in the next stitch, alternate SC and DC across the chain (56)

Love these towels! They will make such a great gift as well.

Just curious when you change colors, do you also cut your yarn and tie in the ends per row?

    Thank you

    • Debbie says:

You leave that colour hanging on the back and continue with the next colour per the pattern. When you come back on the next row it will be there waiting for you. I only cut it if it wasn’t being used for a row so I didn’t have the carry showing on the back. Hope that makes sense.
