How to Make a Giant Crochet Doll- Free Crochet Pattern

Learn how to make a super simple giant crochet doll with no sewing involved! Free pattern, full video, and photo tutorial included.

If you have been following me for awhile now you are probably familiar with The Gracie Doll. You can find the free pattern here 🙂

The original pattern calls for size 4 worsted weight yarn, NO SEW doll! Everything is crocheted together!!

I had a little creative idea in my brain a long time ago and it’s so silly I am just now getting around to sharing this idea. I thought hmm I wonder how a Gracie Doll would turn out using size 6 blanket yarn?!

A GIANT CROCHET DOLL!

I got all my yarn from Hobby Lobby. I used Cozy Occasion by Yarn Bee. For her skin tone, I used the color “Taupe”, Her dress is in the color “Mustard”, shoes and lips are in the color “Soft Pink”, and her fun hair is in the color “Bayou Summers”.

You can also use Bernat Blanket Yarn

Of course, I had to try it out, and though it did take a while for me to create I shared lots of behind the scenes shots on my Instagram Stories of the creation of this giant doll 😉 If you don’t already be sure to follow me over on Instagram so you can get in on all the behind the scenes shots 🙂

There are some differences between the original and the giant dolls. First one being the creation of the eyes.

Here is a close-up of the original pattern. The eyes were made with yarn.

For the giant version, I used these felt cutouts I bought from Katie Dids. You hot glue them on and you are done!

To make the giant version I followed the original pattern exactly, only changing my yarn and hook sizes.

I used Blanket Size 6 yarn and a size K 6.5mm Crochet Hook. I went up a hook size for the shoes portion just like it states to do in the original pattern.

I also decided to give her some long braids by attaching the yarn to the inside of the head as I was crocheting her together. *I will make a video tutorial on the braids…eventually 😉 *

I also gave her some cute bangs! This process was easy! I cut some yarn strands about 10 inches in length.

Fold those strands in half so they are about 5 inches in length.

Using my hook I went under the vertical bars around her hairline

with the strand folded in half over the hook, pull it through a little bit to create a loop

Pull the tail of the strand through the loop

and pull tight to secure it. Repeat over and over until you have a full line of bangs 🙂

Once all the strands are secured I used the eyes as my guide and cut them even lengths across.

Now she she has some super cute bangs!!

This was super fun to create! I love taking my patterns and trying them with different yarns. It is always fun to see how crochet patterns work up differently just by switching the yarn and hook size.

The giant doll all finished is about 3 feet tall! The original is about 18 inches!!

I hope this was fun for you too, and gave you some inspiration to make a giant squishy doll 🙂

I would love to make the giant doll for my granddaughter. Do you know how much yarn you used? Do you have instructions, written or video for the long braids? Thanks so much.
