My cousin April recently wrote and published her first children’s book, Boone! We are all so proud of her, could you imagine the accomplishment one would feel after publishing a book!?

To help April celebrate her first book, she and I came up with a fun designer challenge!

April’s book is called Boone. It is a story about an abandoned puppy who, with the help of an angel dog from heaven, finds a home just in time for Christmas. This book is inspired by the true story of how April actually found her dog, Boone! I cried the first two times I read it.

My challenge for you is to design a crochet amigurumi pattern inspired by Boone! I think the idea of a book, paired with a matching handmade toy, would be the perfect little gift set for kiddos, especially around the holidays since the story takes place at Christmas time!

It wouldn’t be a challenge without a winner! Whoever wins the challenge will get a free, autographed Boone book (signed by April lol, not me), and you will get to guest post your Boone pattern on my blog for the world to see.

Your finished design will also be featured on the A Crafty Concept Instagram page, Facebook and sent out to The Crafty Newsletter subscribers.

The feeling you get when other makers make your design is something I can’t really explain with words and I would love to get to share that feeling with one of you!

You will also be able to sell the PDF version of your Boone pattern in your Etsy or Ravelry shops!

Here’s how to enter!

Challenge Dates: July 18, 2019 – August 18, 2019

All entries must be submitted by August 18th, 2019. Any entries after that date will not be eligible to participate in the design challenge.

  • Design an original dog amigurumi pattern, inspired by the Boone character in the children’s book Boone.
  • Submit multiple pictures of your finished design so April and I can see lots of angles before we select a winner.
  • Submit your full name, email, Instagram URL (optional), website URL (optional), and pictures of your finished design to [email protected] by August 18th, 2019 with the subject Crafty Design Challenge-Your Name.
  • Subscribe to The Crafty Challenge mailing list to stay in the loop and up to date with all things challenge related. This is a separate mailing list from my main, The Crafty Newsletter list. You will only get Boone Challenge emails on The Crafty Challenge list.

If your design is selected, the winner and I will discuss the pattern details, how many pictures, getting it tested, things like that.

Just to clarify, this challenge is for the design portion of the pattern, you do not have to have the finished pattern created by the deadline, just the design, and a finished product.

The winning pattern will need to be published on this blog sometime in September. That way, makers have plenty of time to make the ami’s to gift for the holidays or sell at fall/holiday markets.

I think gift sets with the Boone Ami and the book would sell well at markets.

April and I are so excited to see what you guys come up with! This is my first time hosting a challenge like this. Hopefully, it goes well, and we can start doing them regularly!
