I went a little crazy and added a faux fur brim and crochet faux fur pom to the point for some nice finishing touches.

I believe between creating this design and the Crafty Boho Stocking, a faux fur yarn obsession has been ignited in me, so we will probably be seeing lots more furry patterns in the near future!

Crochet Santa Hat Pattern

Sizes

Toddler Size- About 10” tall and 10” wide
Child Size- About 11” tall and 11” wide
Adult Size- About 13” tall and 12” wide

MATERIALS- (WITH CLICKABLE AFFILIATE LINKS)

Size J (6.0mm) crochet hook
3-4oz of worsted weight yarn (I use Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn)
1 skein of faux fur yarn
Tapestry needle
Scissors
PolyFill– Only a small amount needed for the pom

Stitch Key (US Terms)
SC = Single Crochet
HDC= Half Double Crochet
CH = Chain
HDC INC= Half double crochet Increase – Put two HDC stitches in the same space.
SC INC= same as above but with single crochet stitches.
SC DEC= Single Crochet Decrease- explained under special stitches.
BLO- Back Loop Only
SL ST= Slip Stitch
*= To Be Repeated

SPECIAL STITCHES

Bobble: *yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook* Repeat 3 more times. Now you should have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on your hook. (do not chain after this, just go straight into your next stitch)

Magic Circle: This is my preferred method for starting projects that are made with circular rows (or in the round). I show how to do this in the video that goes with this pattern, but if you prefer to CH 3, join into the first CH and making your stitches into that loop, you’re more than welcome. I think the magic circle (or magic loop) gives the finished piece a cleaner look.

Single Crochet Decrease: Insert your hook into the first stitch, grab your yarn and pull up a loop, insert your hook into your second stitch, grab your yarn and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on your hook.

Gauge
13 stitches by 13 rows is a 4″x4″ square (single crochet stitches)

BEFORE YOU START

You will have to turn your work before and after the bobble rows, so keep an eye out for change within the pattern.

Adult POM

The pom is made by working in the round meaning we will not join and chain up at the end of each round, we will just go directly into the next round instead.

You can use a stitch marker to mark the end of each round.

Round 1: SC 6 into a magic circle. (6)

Round 2: SC INC in each stitch around (12)

Round 3: SC INC, SC* around 6 times (18)

Round 4: INC, SC, SC* around 6 times. (24)

Round 6: SC DEC, SC, SC* around 6 times (18)

Round 7: SC DEC, SC* around 6 times (12)

Round 8: SC DEC around (6)

Tie off leaving a long tail for sewing closed.

Sew in your first tail, stuff your pom then close the hole using your second tail.
