Modern Crochet Baby Blanket- My go-to baby gift.

This modern crochet baby blanket pattern is my go-to crochet baby shower gift when I want to make something extra special for the VIP mom-to-be in my life!

Recently my best childhood friend had her first baby, a baby girl. After watching her struggle with infertility and failed IVF treatments, I got to see her miracle baby girl in real life, and hold her tiny 5 pounds 8 oz body in my arms.

I knew as soon as my friend was pregnant I wanted to make her something extra special… and my extra special crochet baby gift is a Trellis and Chevron blanket designed by Rachele of Cypress Textiles.

Blanket measures about 3.5 x 3.5 feet

I just made a teensie modification- took off the chevron bit and added a little bit more of the trellis.

I have made probably 6 of these blankets in my life, and each one is so beautiful. It’s such a brilliantly written pattern with a beautiful modern design. I swear I think Rachele is some sort of wizard. The way you make each trellis and then attach them to each other is pure genius.

I used Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek yarn from Hobby Lobby in the colors of my friend’s nursery. I used Spice, Brownie, Light Gray, and Dark Gray for the trellises and outlined the whole thing in Creme.

I used a size I or 5.5mm clover amour crochet hook for the entire piece, but I think the instructions suggest going up a hook size for the joining, I just forgot.

You know I’m a sucker for small details, so I had to finish off the blanket with a sued tag from Angie and Britt sporting my new Etsy shop name, Wild Grace.

I am so happy with how this blanket turned out and my friend, her name is Shelby, loved it too! I can’t wait to see her sweet baby girl grow up snuggled in her blanket stitched with love!

This pattern would look awesome in Brava yarn from We Crochet!

I did create a little freebie resource for myself to help me plan out the blanket. I asked Rachele if I could provide it here for you guys and she said I could!

This sheet has a coloring page chart where you can decide on your colors and layout before starting. There’s also a checklist area that shows you how many of each trellis you need to make and you can check them off as you go.

It also has a place for you to dictate which hook you are using, the names of the yarn you used, and a notes section, just in case you need to replicate the blanket down the road.

If you have any baby showers coming up or need to make some baby gifts for Christmas, this modern crochet baby blanket is a real crowd pleaser! And for my overachievers… pair the Trellis and Chevron baby blanket with a matching Bitty Boho Bib and you’ll knock this gift out of the park!

Happy Crocheting
