Crafty Rainbow Earrings- Free Crochet Pattern

A step by step crochet tutorial showing how to crochet a funky pair of rainbow earrings that are perfect for gifting or selling at craft fairs!

Imagine it’s been raining, for three days straight. Your yard is all muddy, your patio furniture is soggy, and your kids are driving you ball-bat crazy because they haven’t been able to play outside!

Then, it stops. The sun begins to peep out, and right before you officially lose your marbles, you spot a beautiful, bright rainbow just outside your kitchen window.

After seeing that rainbow you can’t help but smile. It reminds you that tomorrow is another day and you will put on your mom jeans and make it amazing!

That’s how I want people to feel when they wear a pair of handmade crochet rainbow earrings.

I want them to be a reminder that there’s always a rainbow after a storm, and even when you are going through difficult seasons in life, you know it’s just a season, and tomorrow will be better!

Easy Crochet Rainbow Earring Pattern

Step 1: Cut one piece of cotton cord about 7 inches long.

Step 1 for crochet rainbow earrings

Step 2: Gently twist the cotton cord in the direction opposite of its twist, and separate the three strands that make up the rope.

Step 3: Using your size C crochet hook and fingering weight yarn (color A), SC 19 stitches around one piece of the cotton cord. Tie off leaving a tail about 10 inches long. (19)

Align your stitches so they are roughly centered on your cord.

Step 4: Going back into the first SC stitch you made with color A, attach color B.

Steps 5-7 will be worked over your second piece of cotton cord.

Step 5: SC 7 with color B, over your next strand of cotton cord.

Step 6: INC in the next 5 stitches.

Step 7: SC in the last 7 stitches, tie off. (24)

Step 12: Squish your rainbow, so cotton cord crocheted with color A, is folded closed.

Step 12 for crochet rainbow earrings

Flip your rainbow so you are now working on the WRONG SIDE

Step 13: Thread your longest color A tail onto a tapestry needle, and sew the two sides of the color A cotton rope together.

I do this by going under a few stitches on the left side, then go under a few stitches on the right side. Go back and forth until it’s completely closed.

Step 14: Sew in your color A tails.

I sew in my tails by sewing both tails of the same color up to the center of the rainbow, then knotting them, then sewing them back into the rainbow.

Step 15: Adjust the stitches of the color B row.

Step 16: Sew in the color B tails.

Step 17: Adjust the stitches of the color C row.

Step 18: Sew in color C tails.

Step 19: Comb your fringe with a thin toothed comb and trim with sharp scissors.

Step 20: Open the loop on the end of your fish-hook earring fixture with your needle nose pliers.

Step 21: Insert the opened loop into the middle stitch of the color C row, going from the front of the rainbow to the back. Make sure to go under both loops of the stitch.

Step 21 for crochet rainbow earrings

Step 22: Gently pinch the loop closed with your needle nose pliers.

Step 22 for crochet rainbow earrings

Repeat all the steps for your second earring using the first earring as a size guide for the trim.

That’s all there is to it! Pulling the cord apart and crocheting over each strand helps keep the finished earring light and it also helps your materials go further!

These earrings are so fun and colorful, you could do any color combos! Pastel colors would be so pretty for spring, vibrant colors for summer, then some deep rich colors for fall.

I will for sure be making a pair with mustard gold, dark olive, and aubergine this fall!

I hope you guys love this crochet rainbow earrings pattern! It’s a little more extensive than the Crafty Loop Earring pattern but it’s totally worth it!
