Since January is the month of rejuvenation, and the hanging basket pattern from Sierra went over so well with you, I thought I would stick with the home decor theme and write up something I have had in my mind for about 2 years now.

Crochet nesting baskets! Horray for new free crochet patterns!

These little babies are sturdy, cute, and practical- three of my favorite adjectives. They’re perfect for holding all sorts of things like toys, craft supplies, office supplies, or anything really!

They have two walls which makes them extra strong. Each size fits into the previous size nice and snug which makes them store well and package well if you’re shipping them! Where my fellow crochet bosses at?!

If you would like to purchase the ad-free PDF version of this easy crochet basket pattern I will link it here for you.

And for my more visual learners, you can check out the full video tutorial here!

Last thing before we get started! If you missed the Hanging Basket pattern from a few weeks ago make a mental note to check that one out! You can thank me later 😉.

Crochet Hanging Basket- Free Crochet Basket Pattern

MATERIALS

– Tuff Puff wool from We Crochet  I used 2 skeins of yarn in the color Snickerdoodle, 3 skeins of Sky and 4 Skeins of Silver or Hobbi Bungee Mini. Any strong super bulky weight yarn should work well for this storage basket pattern.
– 8 mm crochet hook
– Tapestry needle
– Scissors
– Stitch Marker

* Tip: If you don’t have any of the yarns listed above but still want to give this free pattern a shot, don’t worry! You can use worsted-weight acrylic yarn, hold two strands of yarn together, and use a smaller hook size to get the same effect. Give it a try and have fun with it!

I also made this matter with Hobbi Bungee Mini yarn and it was a great choice!. This is definitely my favorite yarn for crochet baskets!

STITCH KEY (US TERMS)

SC = Single Crochet
INC= Increase (for this pattern it is 2 SC Stitches)
CH = Chain
KS= Knit Stitch (explained below)
YO = Yarn Over
* to be repeated

SPECIAL STITCHES

Magic Circle: We will be using the Magic Circle (or magic loop) method for this crochet bunny pattern. If you are unfamiliar with this technique please refer to the video that goes with this pattern.

Knit Stitch: This is very similar to a Single Crochet stitch and worked the same way. The only difference is where you put your hook. Instead of putting it under the loops that make the “V” shape on top of your stitch, you will insert your hook into the front side of the stitch- kind of into the body. I show this in the video if you need more help.

Back Loop Only: When you look at the top of your stitch you will see the two loops that create a “V” shape. The back loop is the loop furthest from you. Insert your hook under that loop only.

BEFORE YOU START

This pattern is made by working in the round. This means we will not be joining and chaining up, it is a continuous spiral of stitches.

Optional step

If you want to secure your inner wall to the outer wall of your basket, I suggest taking a tapestry needle and a worsted-weight yarn in a similar color to your basket yarn.

Go through all the stitches until they are securely connected.

This step is optional and doesn’t really affect the finished product, I just like to do it.

    Hello Ashley, I do not know any of the yarns that you mention above. I would love to make these baskets for my nieces, of which there are eight. Can you let me know of an equivalent I might be able to get hold of in England. Thank you for your free patterns that you share so generously and also your happy, smiling face. Which always makes me smile back at you. Hope you can help. Janice. X

      Hi Janice. I don’t see that you received a response. I looked up the yarn and this is what I found.
      US Terms:
      100% Wool
      Super Bulky
      Crochet Gauge: 9SC = 4 inches on M/N Hooks – 13 mm hooks
      44 Yards
      100 Grams
      Hand wash and dry flat.

      I would think any yarn shop across the Pond would be able to help you find some wonderful yarn to use! Hope this helps!

        Thankyou very much Linda. I did try making them but without much success. Yarn I used was probably way off. I now intend to have another go. I will also look up th yarn sub site that Ann below mentioned. Thanks again. Janice.
