Adorable Crochet Doll Bathing Suit- Free Pattern

Learn how to make an adorable crochet doll bathing suit for your little one’s baby dolls. These are designed specifically for a Gracie Doll.

I know it’s August, and I know summer is coming to an end, but I refuse!

I refuse for summer to end, so here I am designing summer-themed crochet patterns as my passive-aggressive way of saying “no thank you” to fall.

Don’t get me wrong, I love fall, and my hands have been itching to make some Claire Bun Beanies. But I am a summer girl through and through, and all summer girls need a cute bathing suit am I right?

Let’s see what you will need to make this bathing suit for your Gracie Dolls.

Materials
– Size H or 5.0mm Crochet hook
– Worsted weight yarn in your color of choice. I am using a light purple I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby.
– Tapestry Needle
– Scissors
– Stitch Marker

STITCH KEY (US TERMS)

CH- Chain
SC- Single Crochet
INC- Increase (in this case- 2 SC in the same stitch)
DEC- Decrease (explained below)
SLST- Slip Stitch
* To be repeated

SPECIAL STITCHES

Back Bump: This is where you flip your starting chain over and insert your hook into the “back bump” of the chain and place your stitch there. If you are unfamiliar with this technique I would suggest watching the video that goes with this pattern.

Decrease: Insert your hook into the first stitch, grab your yarn and pull up a loop, insert your hook into the next stitch, grab yarn and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook.

BEFORE YOU START

Gracie Doll sizes are going to vary based on how much stuffing is in them. My Gracie doll’s torso is about 5.25 inches tall and 8.5 inches around the belly after stuffing. If you find your suit is too big or too small for your doll, changing up your hook size should do the trick.

The bigger Gracie Doll, mentioned in the video tutorial, measures 6.5 inches tall and 11 inches around in the belly after stuffing. I had to make her suit with a J hook and it was still a little tight.

Crochet Doll Bathing Suit Pattern

This pattern is made by working in the round.

CH 28. Join your chain into a circle- being careful not to twist it.

Round 1: SC 28 into the back bump of your chain. (28)

Round 2: [SC 13, INC] x2. (30)

Rounds 3-4: SC around (30)

Rounds 5: SC 5, INC, SC 15, INC, SC 8 (32)

Round 6: SC around (32)

Round 7: SC 11, INC, SC 16, INC, SC 3 (34)

Round 8: SC around. (34)

Round 9: SC 8, INC, SC 11, INC, SC 13 (36)

Round 10: SC around (36)

Round 11: SC 15, INC, SC 13, INC, SC 6 (38)

Round 12: SC around (38)

Round 13: SC 2, INC, SC 17, INC, SC 17 (40)

Round 14: SC around (40)

Round 15: SC 11, INC, SC 15, INC, SC 12 (42)

Rounds 16-18: SC around (42)

Flip your crochet doll bathing suit inside out and squish it so it’s flat. Now we are going to seam the bottom close it up and create leg holes.

Going through the front half of the suite and the back half of the suites stitches at the same time SC 3.

SLST into the next 5 stitches of only one side of the suite. This is a leg hole. Don’t make these SLST’s too tight here.

SC 5 (going through both sides of the suit again).

SLST 5 in one side of the suit (this is your second leg hole).

SC 3 going through both sides of the suit. Tie off and sew in your tail.

Now we need to make the top half of our crochet doll bathing suit.

Find the front center 14 stitches.

Insert your hook into the right side corner of your suite. Like the right armpit area.

Row 1: SC 14 across. CH 1, turn. (14)

Row 2: SC 14 across. CH 1, turn. (14)

Row 3: DEC, SC 10, DEC. CH 1, turn. (12)

Row 4: SC 12 across. CH 1, turn. (12)

Row 5: DEC, SC 8, DEC. CH 25 (this is our first strap). Tie off.

Join your yarn into the corner of the other side of your site (the side without the strap).

CH 25. Tie off. Knot both ends of your straps and trim your yarn.

Make sure all your tails are sewn in and YOU’RE FINISHED! Now your Gracie Doll is all ready for the pool!
